2011 Emmy Award Winners

Just in case you missed the 63rd Annual Emmy Awards last night, here’s a quick rundown of what you missed: Modern Family dominated in the comedy category once again and Mad Men won Best Drama, although many of the other awards were spread out among numerous shows. I know a lot of people will be excited to see that Kyle Chandler won Best Actor for his role as Coach Taylor in Friday Night Lights and Peter Dinklage took home the Supporting Actor award for Game of Thrones. Martin Scorsese also picked up his first ever Emmy for directing the pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire. Were you surprised by any of the choices? Did they get any of the categories wrong? love that kyle chandeler got an emmy. probably a more of a lifetime achievement award than for his performance in this season. it seemed like without bryan cranston, jon hamm would finally win, but I guess there is always next year.

  • Paul Andrews

Nice to see an award for Jim Parsons – well deserved.

  • bard

No way does Jim Parsons deserve that over Steve Carell. Even if Steve didn’t win, at least give it to Louis C.K. or Matt LeBlanc. Both of their shows are funny and doing something new. Giving it to Jim Parsons is almost as bad as giving to the guy from Two and a Half Men. Also, Modern Family winning so many awards was pretty dumb.

  • Matt

I didn’t even know it was on last night…

  • KeithTalent

Had no idea this was on either, but very happy to see Dinklage win as he was consistently awesome throughout the first season of Game of Thrones.

  • Colin

Oh, yay… some talentless ass on a multi-camera, studio audience, lowest-common-denominator sitcom won the comedy acting Emmy.

    I’m sure he earned that.

  • Mike F

Was very pleased to see Margo Martindale win for her role on “Justified”. Her performance was just riveting from the season opener to the finale. The same goes for Peter Dinklage, my favorite actor on “Game of Thrones”.

  • patrik

is Modern Family really this good? Haven“t seen an episode..

  • bard

I think there are only 3 funny characters on Modern Family. The gay couple and the dad that won an Emmy last night. The others are either not funny or just straight up annoying.

  • Falsk

    @Colin Seriously!!

But glad to see Dink got the award… but sorta disappointed Mad Men got best drama. I love Mad Men and all but this last season was definitely the weakest. Would’ve been nice to see a nod either to Game of Thrones or Boardwalk Empire…

  • Mikey T

I’m sure some will be fond of telling the story of an actor overcoming the handicap of being a “little person” and it will give them warm fuzzies, but I can assure you Peter Dinklage would be the first person to tell those people to fuck off. That dude can flat out act! He made Game of Thrones so much better and it’s good to see him get recognized for his accomplishment.
Great to see Ty Burrell get some recognition, he’s great on Modern Family. Also my favorite show Justified got a little love. Awesome second season and was helped tremendously in a supporting role by Margo Martindale. If you haven’t seen Justified, you are missing out.

  • Steve

SO, Big Bang is not funny, or doing anything new?… and the Office is? I like Louis and LeBlanc as well, but if u don’t find BBT funny-as-hell and well-written then you don’t know funny. Maybe dark-and-sideways is the only way to get ya to laugh. Probably a childhood issue. And the guy who thinks multi cameras and an audience preclude funny? I think it’s funny and amazing that people (like, you) can talk sideways out of their anal orifice. Doesn’t mean you deserve an emmy though.

    Ciao

  • Steve

Ditto on the kudos to Margo Martindale. Just scary-good performance right up to the “end”! ;-)

    Justified rocks!

  • Steve

Anyone else surprised that “Men Of A Certain Age” was apparently nowhere to be seen? That show is clawing for my fav, alongside “Justified”.

I hope Ray doesn’t take it personally, cause it is an awesome show, with first rate performances from Ray Romano, Andre Braugher _and_ Scott Bakula. This ain’t no “E.L.R.” people.

  • Mike

Yo Steve, the big bang theory is total shit, and this is coming from somebody who has seen every episode. Why do I watch it? I have weird obsession with sit-coms, I find them the easiest way to pass time at work. You don’t know funny. I’m pretty sure Lorre is going to come out some day and reveal that all his shows have been created solely to prove once and for all that the majority of people are stupid and only enjoy things that are familiar, never play with your expectations, and always go broad. The Big Bang Theory is the sitcom equivalent of a 7th grade bully making fun of the kid in class because he does his homework and enjoys science fiction, while trying to hide this fact by just referencing star trek characters and physics related Wikipedia entries. Raise your standards, bro.
