Seth Rogen Won’t Appear in Knocked Up Spin-off, Will Co-Direct Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse

Ever since Judd Apatow’s upcoming Knocked Up spin-off (tentatively titled This Is Forty) was announced, many people were wondering whether Seth Rogen would make an appearance as his character from the earlier film. Well, now we’re hearing from the man himself that he will not show up in the movie. While talking with Movies.com, Rogen said that while he has visited the set, his character was omitted – and that the film is probably better for it. He’s quoted as saying his appearance might have “confused people.” Instead of working on another Apatow-helmed film, Rogen and long-time writing partner Evan Goldberg are busy preparing for their next collaboration, Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse, which shoots in February.

Based on a trailer they made a few years ago, Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse will star Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel in what Rogen describes as an “oddly personal” film and one that has greatly expanded from its original premise. By “expanded”, he is referring to more characters being added, which will probably mean that more of his regular co-stars can join in the fun. In addition to writing, Goldberg and Rogen will take a stab at co-directing this time out as well. I’m hoping that they can bring something fresh to the table because the whole movie-based-on-a-fake-trailer thing has worn on me. What are your impressions of Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse thus far and are you looking forward to Rogen and Goldberg directing? Do you think people would have been “confused” by Rogen’s appearance in This Is Forty?

  • Great news! I’ve been waiting to hear something about Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse for a while. I feared it had fallen by the wayside.
