Olivia Wilde Considering Linda Lovelace Biopic

Audiences are getting ready to see quite a bit of Olivia Wilde this year as her new films Cowboys & Aliens and The Change-Up are unleashed into theaters, plus she has In Time and Butter coming out over the next few months. With her celebrity status steadily climbing, Wilde can now afford to be a little more picky with her future roles. One role that she’s now considering is the lead in an upcoming Linda Lovelace biopic, simply titled Lovelace. For the uninitiated, Linda Lovelace was most famous for her work in porno films, effectively bringing X-rated material into the mainstream with films like Deep Throat. Wilde is quoted as saying it would be a “tremendous honor” to play the 1970s star and described her as a “fascinating woman.” The film will be directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, the team behind Howl.
Lovelace is not to be confused with Inferno, the other Linda Lovelace film in development starring Malin Akerman. It’s one of the more odd cases of Hollywood doubling up on movies with similar content, but I’m sure audiences will be, uh…grateful? Maybe not. As for Wilde, she certainly appears set for some big opportunities in the next few years and Lovelace could be the kind of film where she proves herself to critics with a challenging role. What are your thoughts on Olivia Wilde’s work thus far and do you see her taking on this type of material?
