Weekly Poll Results: Best Harry Potter Movie

Well, the results from last week’s Harry Potter poll are in, and they’re pretty interesting if you ask me. The third installment Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ended up on top, which was to be expected, but with nearly 50% of the votes it was a very decisive victory. This film has long been heralded as the best of the bunch, but is it just because it was directed by Alfonso Cuaron or is there something more to it? I’m not sure. I suspect that if we did this poll a few months from now, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 would end up winning just because it’s the last one. I was somewhat surprised to see my two least favourite films at #2 and #3 (which I suppose confirms that I’m simply way out of touch with the Potter world), and as for the rest of the films they all had almost an equal number of votes across the board. Why is it that none of these other films really stand out as being particularly good or particularly bad? Do you agree with these results?

1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban — 48.3%
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 — 13.4%
3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire — 11.6%
4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince — 7.5%
5. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone — 7.2%
6. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix — 6.2%
7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets — 5.8%

From an unbiased film-watching perspective, Prisoner of Azkaban seems like a good film for the #1 spot.
However, I voted for #7 part 1, but my vote was completely biased! I rated it top for it being the most faithful to the book, and because the main trio’s acting skills have hugely improved from the early films…

I vote for Harry Potter and the Half-Blart Prince.

  • Chris

While I enjoyed the Prisoner of Azkaban for many of the reasons stated in the poll results, my favorite is the Sorcerers Stone. Chris Columbus did a suberb job in setting up the Harry Potter universe, which gave the other directors a huge advantage coming in after Chamber of Secrets. Had the first one failed, there would not have been a series at all.

I agree with Chris. Chris Columbus did a marvelous job at capturing the Harry potter world that was portrayed in the first 2 books. I actually think that 3 would be one of my least favorite ofthe series.
