Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion Trailer

With director Steven Soderbergh still threatening to retire at some point in the next few years, it makes every single one of his upcoming movies seem that much more important. If he does go through with these plans, he will be going out on a handful of genre films — hey, he might as well have fun doing it! Contagion is the first one to hit theatres this fall, and it is a thriller that revolves around a deadly viral outbreak. The script was written by Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Informant!).

While I think that the rash of zombie films over the past few years has probably conditioned people to expect some sort of twist from this film, I’m actually pretty excited about a straight up virus thriller. The fantastic cast includes Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lawrence Fishburne and Bryan Cranston. If that’s not enough to sell you on it, I don’t know what more you need! This trailer has me completely hooked, and I, for one, can’t wait to see it. Contagion hits theatres on September 9th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Nice .. I stopped the trailer when I saw it going in a children of man-ish direction.. didn’t want to spoil it for me.

This looks Good. I like the camera angles Sodenbergh uses..

Great cast! Story seems interesting as well.

Btw I’ve heard that the plot here is similar to one of the seasons of 24? Anyone else see the similarity?

  • Outbreak II?

Everything is been done in terms of general plotting guys..

  • Hm.. It looks okay. I can’t say I’m excited though. Some of the lines in that trailer really turned me off.

In particular, the wife one where Matt Damon is told some news and it doesn’t seem to sink in for example. For a second I was thinking it was going to go into a comedy direction. heh

I admit I am curious though, and with Soderbergh’s name on it I will likely give it a watch at least…

It’s just not grabbing me I guess, from a story perspective. But then, I think 12 Monkeys is the end-all be-all of viral outbreak movies. :P

Looks pretty cool minus that whole “No one is immune…TO FEAR” part, that was lame.

Now I have to say that 80% of how interested I am in a film comes from who’s directing/starring in it. I think a movie like Social Network and Black Swan prove this theory. Most people heard about a facebook movie thought it was stupid, now the part I don’t get is how that person explains if it is so stupid why would a guy like Fincher do it, or as a ballet movie would be lame why would Aronofsky do it. Now we hear people saying Contagion is just government propaganda and creativily uninspired. But once again it’s all about who’s doing it, it’s Soderbergh, the guy who made a six hour movie about Che, the guy who turned drug abuse and distribution into a crime epic. Soderbergh with the cast with the large scope, it could and probably will be amazing.
