Immortals Trailer #2

When I first heard that the man behind The Cell and The Fall was going to be directing a fantasy epic steeped in Greek mythology, it seemed like a pretty inspired choice to me and I was excited to see what kinds of crazy visuals he might bring to the screen this time around. Now that we’ve seen the first two trailers for his upcoming film Immortals, I don’t know that I’m all that excited anymore. The marketing has been highlighting the similiarities to 300 for obvious reasons, but as a result, I just can’t seem to get past how utterly redundant this film looks.

Tarsem’s last two films have been wildly original, and although there is some cool imagery here, somehow this seems like nothing more than a paycheck for the guy. I don’t know, maybe I am just getting burnt out on sword and sandals flicks. What do you think, does this new trailer make you more or less excited to see Immortals? Immortals hits theatres on November 11th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I’m actually pumped for this film. I enjoyed 300 too, for what it was.

Btw, has anyone seen Tarsem’s other film The Fall? If so, how is it? The trailer looks amazing.

  • @Napalm: “The Fall” has a nice sentimental story that I wasn’t expecting. I loved it.

  • Jonathan

I too was excited by the idea of this but the trailers so far leave me a little cold. Tarsem is such a visionary guy that I’m surprised this seems to ape the look and feel of 300 so much.

@Napalm… Check out The Fall, it’s a brilliant film with amazing visuals, and a great performances by Lee pace and Catinca Untaru. Looks very good on Bluray.

  • Jonathan

Wow, i was typing a reply to this post at the same time as Reed. My life is complete

  • @Jonathan: Maybe you’re my long, lost twin. (For those who aren’t aware, twins tend to do the same things at the same time without being aware of what the other is doing.)

I’m always holding out hope for a solid Tarsem film. The visuals in The Fall were pretty brilliant, but the story and performances were a headache for me. I liked The Cell quite a bit too, although I mostly turned my ears off and tuned in to the visuals.

  • We did a MOVIE CLUB PODCAST on THE FALL which is an excellent bit of visual storytelling — http://movieclubpodcast.blogspot.com/2010/06/movie-club-18-fall-and-saragossa.html

This trailer looks like shit and even worse: BORING.

  • The Fall was absolutely stunning visually but a little shallow with the story but overall a good film.

The visuals once again look impressive, and I have a feeling the story will play second fiddle once more.

  • Napalm

Awesome. I gotta check The Fall out.

  • Jonathan

There are a few sequences in The Fall that genuinely take your breath away. The butterfly shot had my mind racing to catch up with what my eyes were seeing. I just hope we get some of that in Immortals.

@Reed, possibly buddy but I’m not Asian…. does that matter? ;)

What’s with all this really bad viral marketing on this website? Are you at least paying the site owner for it?

  • kyri

it looks like a giant turd with sandals.

  • rob

the action looked fun, anything with talking sucked.
