Definitely stoked for this one! John Le Carre is a master of the genre and his George Smiley character is a brilliant creation. As mentioned, Smiley appears in many of Le Carre’s novels but it is the trilogy that consists of “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, “The Honourable Schoolboy” and “Smiley’s People” in which we follow him as he tries to uncover a mole in the most senior levels of MI6 (or the Circus as it’s referred to in the books). It will be a challenge for Gary Oldman to top Alec Guiness’ portrayal of Smiley. That BBC production is currently available (on DVD only) on Netflix is definitely worth checking out. Keep in mind, this is no James Bond action thriller. It is a well-written, intelligent, detailed look at the real world of espionage.
