New to Theatres This Weekend: Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Larry Crowne, Monte Carlo

As the Canada Day / Independence Day long weekend approaches, Bayhem has once again taken over theatres everywhere. Transformers: Dark of the Moon is pretty much guaranteed to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, and although critics have been only slightly kinder to it than the previous installment, nothing could be more irrelevant. Love it or hate it, people will pay to see it… I just wish the damn thing wasn’t two and a half hours long again. In terms of competition, there are a pair of romantic comedies giving middle aged couples and teenage girls some alternatives with Larry Crowne starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts and Monte Carlo starring Selena Gomez. In select theatres we also have indie thriller The Perfect Host starring David Hyde Pierce and indie dramedy Terri starring John C. Reilly. What will you be watching this weekend? Did Transformers 3 give you the Baygasm you were hoping for?

It was quite disappointing, the story never went anywhere and nothing really happened.

It had very abrupt changes in tone from high action to shitty teen love. The editing was also a bit constant, never any high or low points. The story never really “kicked in” and got started.

Maybe I was expecting a different kind of movie… but it was a bit of a letdown.

Just got back from the theatre.
Transformers 3 is an improvement compared to Transformers 2.

    Still kinda shitty though…

I crept into an early viewing of Transformers yesterday, after getting off, and, unknowingly, ended up watching and enjoying the film with basically a whole theater full of new military recruits.

At the most basic level it was a whole lot of the same things that everyone that watched the 1st two movies experienced, but there was actually a story in this one, in addition to the t& a and eye candy, and there was actually some kind of soul involved in the movie itself.

There were surprises and twists, visually and emotionally, and those things are what really made the movie worthwhile, this time.

Long story short, the movie ended, basically every damn person in the theater clapping enthusiastically, with satisfaction. Nuff said.
