Angelina Jolie to Return for Salt Sequel?

Although we’ve come to expect a new Angelina Jolie movie in theatres almost every summer now, this year she only provides a voice for Kung Fu Panda 2. Otherwise, the biggest female movie star on the planet took a break from being in front of the camera in order to direct her first film, In the Land of Blood and Honey. What’s surprising, however, is that despite all of the projects she has been rumoured to be attached to, she currently has no major roles lined up and ready to start shooting for next year. It makes sense, then, that she might be interested in starring in a sequel to one of her previous hits, and since Jolie turned down Wanted 2 last year, that leaves the next most obvious choice: Salt 2.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is indeed in the early stages of putting together a sequel to Salt, and they have just hired original screenwriter Kurt Wimmer to start penning the script. Although they don’t say Jolie is officially signed on as of yet, she supposedly “wants to do the Salt sequel if it comes together right.” There has also been no word on whether Phillip Noyce might return to direct.

In my opinion, Salt was a decent enough action thriller, but there wasn’t anything particularly noteworthy about it outside of Jolie’s performance. There was an element of mystery surrounding her identity, but that was resolved by the end of the film. Is this a sequel anyone really wants to see? What do you think, are you excited about the possibility of Salt 2?

    Oh for fuck sakes …..

    I think I’d rather see a Wanted 2 than a Salt 2.

    NOOOOOO!!!!!

Angelina has a certain appeal. I think it’s just a basic part of who she is as an actress and as a person. I think she could take the crappiest and most god forsaken role in any film and her fans, including me, would still run out to see it, or go pick it up on dvd, because she is just that established now.

However many millions of dollars she makes per film, she earns it, without question. I don’t know if it’s just that I like her, personally, and she puts something of herself into every role she plays, or if she is just that much better of an actress then some other female stars .

I don’t know that a sequel to “Salt” would make a huge amount of money, but I know it probably wouldn’t be a complete flop. I know I would at least check it out on dvd, at the minimum, on the very day that the dvd is released.

How about making a sequel to a movie that didn’t absolutely suck?

Salt was like a really retarded ripoff of Bourne, with a chick instead.

At least Bourne was half-plausible, I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes at how ridiculously over the top and flawed Salt “action” was.

I enjoyed Salt – I’d certainly like to see a sequel. It’s a popcorn movie for goodness sake – if you expect Bourne you’re going to be disappointed; movies of that calibre come along very rarely.

When my mum realises something is a bad film, you know its terrible.

Salt is one of these films. (imo) :P

  • Salt is awesome and more proof of Angies dominance over every woman that has tried the action role. WE NEED A NEW JOLIE!!! anyone?

  • Martine Taylor
