The Hangover 3 Already in the Works (Obviously)

After such a monster opening weekend for The Hangover Part II, it should come as no surprise that The Hangover Part III might be a strong possibility. And right on cue, this week The Wrap confirmed that Craig Mazin has already been hired to pen a script for the inevitable follow-up. Mazin co-wrote part 2 with longtime Todd Phillips collaborator Scot Armstrong (Old School, Road Trip), and will now immediately get to work reconfiguring the formula in true paint-by-numbers fashion. What seedy party destination will The Wolfpack crash in this time around? And more importantly, will audiences be interested in yet another rehash, or have they learned their lesson after suffering through The Hangover Part II?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next installment of The Hangover may very well end up traveling to Amsterdam. It seems like an obvious choice based on its reputation for sex and drugs although, ironically, the Dutch government has been talking about banning tourists from their marijuana coffee shops. Then again, based on how little they actually took advantage of Bangkok as a location this time around, I don’t think it really matters where they set it.

As for the potential quality of a third Hangover film, I don’t there is much hope if Craig Mazin is the one writing it. It’s worth noting that he did not write the first Hangover flick, and that his credits include Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4 and Superhero Movie. Then again, he did direct The Specials, an indie superhero comedy that I have a soft spot for. What do you think, are you interested in seeing The Hangover Part III?

as long as it is set in amsterdam!

  • I didn’t like the second very much, but I really love the characters so if they make another, I’ll be a sucker and give them my money to go see it, for nothing more then getting to spend more time with these characters.

  • That indie superhero film happened to be written by James Gunn (call it the proto-SUPER) and much of the films endearing qualities, methinks, comes from that.

I was actually excited about Part 2. I thought that all those hoity toity critics were getting their panties in a wad about the movie and giving it bad reviews…but it turns out that it just sucked dick at being a good movie.

So yeah…no. No, I won’t be seeing the third. I’ll see it on Netflix, but that’s about it. But I know that I’m in the minority here, so it won’t matter at all.

i have yet to see the second one and i have not heard good things about it, but i do want to see it. now a third? how many times can you recycle, i mean i love the cast and their chemistry, but why take a good flick and rape the shit out of it until no one wants to see it. who is getting married this time, the monkey?

  • Anthony

Scary Movie 3 and 4 and Superhero movie, while not great, have some laughs, and are a giant step above Epic movie, disaster movie, meet the spartans, etc.

  • After suffering through The Hangover Part II? Very dramatic. I liked the movie. Original it wasn’t, but I was entertained, and I’ll go see the third one.

  • Honestly, some comedies should never ever make it past the first movie.

  • AmKe

I love the characters and as long as they all come back I would be glad to pay to watch them.

  • Ryan

I got exactly what I wanted from the Hangover 2. While not as funny as part 1 it did get a lot more laughs than the average comedy, it’s one of those movies thats all about the characters. In a recent podcast I remember everyone talking about Beverly Hills Cop and haow part 1 & 2 were the same movie but they liked them, how is this any different? Look at the mess BHC3 became when they changed it up!

  • Just saw part II. One of the nastiest movies I’ve seen in a long time. While I won’t go so far as to say I was offended it seemed they were trying very hard to offend, maybe to try and distract from the fact that they were out of ideas. Too bad. Good comedy is never mean-spirited but this movie was. I liked the first but won’t be seeing part III.
