The Hangover 3 Already in the Works (Obviously)

After such a monster opening weekend for The Hangover Part II, it should come as no surprise that The Hangover Part III might be a strong possibility. And right on cue, this week The Wrap confirmed that Craig Mazin has already been hired to pen a script for the inevitable follow-up. Mazin co-wrote part 2 with longtime Todd Phillips collaborator Scot Armstrong (Old School, Road Trip), and will now immediately get to work reconfiguring the formula in true paint-by-numbers fashion. What seedy party destination will The Wolfpack crash in this time around? And more importantly, will audiences be interested in yet another rehash, or have they learned their lesson after suffering through The Hangover Part II?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next installment of The Hangover may very well end up traveling to Amsterdam. It seems like an obvious choice based on its reputation for sex and drugs although, ironically, the Dutch government has been talking about banning tourists from their marijuana coffee shops. Then again, based on how little they actually took advantage of Bangkok as a location this time around, I don’t think it really matters where they set it.
As for the potential quality of a third Hangover film, I don’t there is much hope if Craig Mazin is the one writing it. It’s worth noting that he did not write the first Hangover flick, and that his credits include Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4 and Superhero Movie. Then again, he did direct The Specials, an indie superhero comedy that I have a soft spot for. What do you think, are you interested in seeing The Hangover Part III?
