Miranda July’s The Future Trailer

It’s been six years since Miranda July’s first film Me and You and Everyone We Know took the indie film world by storm and won awards at both Sundance and Cannes, not to mention the Independent Spirit Awards. The movie definitely marked the arrival of a fresh new voice, and in particular, a fresh new female voice. Of course, it definitely had its share of detractors as well, with the cuteness and quirkiness factors cranked up to 11. Now Miranda July is back with her new film The Future, which apparently cranks the quirkiness all the way up to 12.

The movie stars July and Hamish Linklater (The New Adventures of Old Christine) as a 30-something couple who decide to adopt a stray cat. Somehow this acts as a turning point in their relationship, “altering the course of time and space and testing their faith in each other and themselves.” It’s hard to get a handle on the movie just from watching this trailer, but it definitely seems to be a pretty weird and trippy experience. For example, there are shots and a voice over from the point of view of the cat. At the very least, you know now to expect something predictable and safe from Miranda July. The Future hits select theatres on July 29th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

14 FUCKIN’ DAYS SINCE THE LAST PODCAST.

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ?

Get Reed and Greg to do a beatbox version of “My Sharona” and call it Podcast #317.

    I HAVE NEEDS !!!!!

yeah, I’m with lars von tired. you can’t do this to me, you monsters! this trailer is shit?! I need podcast!

  • Lars Von Tired

This waiting for the podcast shit is worse than the mental image of Greg being offered sex outside the mall by the homeless woman …..

By the way, for anyone interested – I was in NYC and recorded “Beauty day” on my phone. It’s available by googling Lars_Moma_BDay-Film.

Jay and I hope you like it …..

  • We’re working on it.

  • @Lars Von Tired: I was just listening to My Sharona off of the CD The Knack Retrospective [The Best of The Knack].

I like quirky, but I was disappointed by “Me and You and Everyone We Know” when Jay showed it at a company movie night. I bought the DVD recently, so maybe I’ll watch it in the privacy of my own home and I might like it better.

@Sean – THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

@Reed – Reed, you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Based on what you did with Black Sabbath you should record a mini-album, might I suggest –

    1. Girls and Boys – Blur
    2. Love on the Rocks – Neil Diamond
    3. Can’t get you outta my head – Kylie Minogue
    4. This beat goes on/ Switchin’ to glide – The Kings
    5. Cruel to be kind – Nick Lowe

I can’t wait to check out this film. I loved Me And You And Everyone We Know. It also had one of the best scores I’ve ever heard.

  • Matthew Hook

Ever see this guy on The New Adventures of Old Christine?

    Pure Shit.

  • @Lars Von Tired: “Cruel to be Kind” is one of my fav songs!

  • Lars Von Tired

@Reed – I thought so. Jay had mentioned that Nick Lowe was a fav or yours. That song rules.

    Classic video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0l3QWUXVho

    Another good one – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn1CXbf2xF8

    Keep the peace, Reed.
