Jean-Claude Van Damme to Play a Villain in The Expendables 2?

Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables was a surprise hit last summer, thanks in large part to the all-star cast that he managed to recruit for the film. It was packed with action stars from both past and present, but there were still a few big names that were notably absent — people like Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme. While Seagal would eventually end up in Machete instead, JCVD was supposedly offered a role in The Expendables, but decided to turn it down because the character was not very well written. Now it appears that he may have had a change of heart, because it is being reported around the web that he will be appearing in The Expendables 2.
According to a post on The Van Damme Fans message board, long time JCVD collaborator Sheldon Lettich (Double Impact, Bloodsport) has revealed that he will play a villain in The Expendables 2. No other information was made available, but he seems to be a pretty reliable source as far as Van Damme is concerned. He is the same guy that cleared up some of the false information about Van Damme’s rumoured heart attack last year.
I’m curious to hear if Van Damme approached Stallone for the sequel or vice versa. I am assuming they would have come to some sort of compromise regarding the size of the role and the depth of the character, although let’s face it, villains usually aren’t the most fleshed out characters in these kinds of movies. Whether or not JCVD is in a position to be doing a ton of physical stuntwork right now, I’m sure we can all agree that this is a team-up we’d like to see on screen, and hopefully it turns out to be true. Now let’s get a kick-ass director on board and make the sequel even better than the original! Are you excited to see Jean-Claude Van Damme in The Expendables 2? Who else would you like to see in the film?
