Weekly Poll Results: Biggest 2011 Summer Blockbuster

After tallying the results from last week’s poll, it seems pretty clear that Film Junk readers believe the final Harry Potter film will be the biggest movie of the summer. But did they vote with their minds or their hearts? It’s true that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 had the biggest opening weekend of any Harry Potter movie to date, but it also came out after a huge wait, and at a time when there was very little competition. Either way, I’ll be interested to see how it all plays out. I’m sure many of the comic book movies will also do quite well, and we already know Fast Five is off to a great start… but let’s not forget that 5 of the top 10 movies last year were animated. Do you agree with these results?

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 — 42.7%
2. Transformers: Dark of the Moon — 17.4%
3. Captain America: The First Avenger — 14.7%
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides — 11.2%
5. X-Men: First Class — 3.9%
6. Thor — 3.2%
7. Cars 2 — 3%
8. Green Lantern — 2.1%
9. Fast Five — 1.1%
10. Kung Fu Panda 2 — 0.7%

Looking at the list I’m actually happy that Michael Bay exists.

I think Harry Potter will do the best at the box office, but I’m looking forward to Pirates. :)

The only thing that surprises me about the results is that so few picked Cars 2. That movie will do extremely well, regardless of that lackluster trailer.

I don’t think that will be the order that they are in in the end, Cars 2, and KFP 2 will liekly be closer to the top… Much broader audiences for both movies then any other movie up there…

Totally agree about HP though, I can’t wait!!! I watched the blue ray of Part I again the other day, and found myself ticked off that they cut it into two films because I wanted to know what happened right away, and this is why I think it will have a huge audience!
