Casa de mi Padre Trailer: Will Ferrell’s Spanish-Language Comedy

A YouTube video surfaced today for what appears to be the trailer for a feature-length western/comedy in which Will Ferrell speaks only Spanish. Chase Whale, the blogger responsible for “finding” the trailer, claims he has no idea as to whether the trailer is official or not. He reports that he accidentally happened upon it on YouTube. The trailer is high-quality, seems to have final production elements completed, and it does not appear to be bootlegged. Where did it come from? No one is sure.
There have been rumblings of this film in the past on various podcast interviews with both Ferrell and Adam MacKay and an “Untitled Spanish Comedy” appears on Ferrell’s IMDb page, so it is safe to assume that this Gary Sanchez Production is more than a Funny Or Die skit — although, according to IMDb, the film is being directed by Funny Or Die alum Matt Piedmont. Casa de mi Padre, as the title appears in the trailer, includes a supporting cast of the oft-cast-together Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, both native Spanish speakers. Hit the jump for the trailer and a full synopsis.
According to IMDb:
“Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiancĂ©, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).”
Based on the trailer alone, the film has my attention. If they actually commit to staying in Spanish through the entire film, this could be amazing. Even if they don’t, I’m always down for a Western. Set it in Mexico as an absurdist comedy–even better. Accidentally leaked, intentionally leaked, whatever. I’m in. What are your thoughts on the trailer and the promise of the film?
