Deadpool Movie Gets a Director

Well, contrary to what Ryan Reynolds has been saying as of late, it looks like plans for a Deadpool spin-off are still holding steady over at 20th Century Fox. Last year they hired Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) to write a script, and now they have signed a director for the project as well. It turns out that it won’t be Robert Rodriguez or any other recognizable name at the helm; instead they have handed the reins to visual effects expert Tim Miller in what will be his feature debut. Is anyone actually excited about this?
The movie will apparently bear the title X-Men Origins: Deadpool, and it will still star Reynolds as Wade Wilson, a mercenary who becomes another Weapon X test subject and obtains Wolverine’s healing ability. Although the Wolverine movie turned him into some weird mutant hybrid, this will supposedly keep the character more true to the comics. Or so one would hope.
Tim Miller has worked on the visual effects for a number of comic book movies including Daredevil, X-Men, X2, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. He is also the co-founder of FX house Blur Studios, but as far as directing goes, he has only done a number of video game trailers. What do you think, can Miller handle a big budget blockbuster and does this news dash your hopes for the Deadpool movie?
