Amy Adams is Lois Lane

The search for a new Lois Lane is over. Director Zack Snyder announced in an interview with the L.A. Times over the weekend that the role in his upcoming Superman reboot will go to three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams. She last appeared in David O. Russell’s The Fighter, where her performance drew rave reviews and cemented her ability to play strong female characters. Snyder had this to say about the decision:

“For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it… It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance].”

Adams is 36 years old, and it’s nice to see that they didn’t just go for some hot young model type. I think we can all agree that she will be a major improvement over Kate Bosworth, but can she eclipse Margot Kidder’s iconic ’80s performance as Lois? What do you think, is Amy Adams right for this role?

Amy Adams has really impressed in everything I’ve seen her in from Junebug to Sunshine Cleaning and she was a powerhouse in “The Fighter.” She’s still really youthful looking at 36, I could easily see her as 28-32. I think that’s just right for Lois Lane. Kate Bosworth looked like a little kid.

Wow 36??!! she looks damn good for 36! She looks 10 years younger!

As an actress she was great in the fighter and a solid actress overall…so I am sure she is capable of pulling off a good Lois though she is not what imagined for the role.

I was actually hoping for Olivia wilde…she has the look and is a solid actress…and isn’t to young or to old…I think she’s around 28.

I think that she was a good choice for the role. The fact that she is a serious actress that can do well in lighter and more serious roles is a very good thing. I feel like this movie is going to be more grounded in reality in a lot of ways then previous Superman movies, but at the same time, by approaching the movie in that way I think Snyder will make it much more enjoyable to many more different types of people.

Basically, at this point I am ready for them to start filming and then after they do the special effects and the final cut I am anxious for them to send me my special “Superman fan since birth” advanced blu-ray copy of the film, so that I can enjoy the movie and have my mind put at ease :p

  • Word on the street is Lois Lane is in like 5 mins of this new Superman flick. Perhaps she’ll have a bigger role for the sequel.

Wilde’s look is too hot for Lois Lane who has to be able to play young up-and-coming reporter. Wilde seems more likely to be a news anchor. I wonder if they will even keep the Daily Planet newspaper setting as that seems so outdated now.

  • The casting of Amy Adams has made me interested in this movie now.

Her version of Lois should have a thick Boston accent

It’s funny that they would choose to use her, considering the fact that she was in a couple of episodes of Smallville. Aside from that, I haven’t really seen her in to many movies that she’s been in aside from Catch Me if You Can. I had originally thought
Kate Beckinsale would have been a good Lois Lane, especially after seening the way she looked in Aviator. Maybe even Rachel Adams. Amy Adams has always reminded me of actress Mia Kirshner, who I think could have pulled the character off nicely. Years ago I always thought one of the only actresses that could have pulled off playing Lois was Courtney Cox; after watching her performance in the Scream movies; (but I know she’s too old for the part now)

Anyway… I have enough confidence in Snyder to trust his judgment. Can’t wait to see his vision. I know it will be awesome.

@Derek McFarland It’s funny, I recently thought the same thing about Courtney Cox playing Lois Lane. But to me it’s more that she’s got a similar look, voice and style to Margo Kidder’s Lois, rather than just the character of Lois.

I thought it was silly for Singer to cast someone as close to Christopher Reeve as they could, yet go completely away from Margo Kidder for Lois. Kidder had an edge that Bosworth never came close to pulling off. If Singer wanted to make Superman II 1/2, which he obviously tried to do, why change that one character so much with poor casting?

Anyway, I’m glad Snyder chose a more mature, stronger actress to play the role. So far, casting seems good, hope they keep it up.
