Reminder: Beauty Day Premieres This Weekend in New York City!

Hey guys, as you may know, some of us are in New York City this weekend for the premiere of Jay’s first feature-length documentary Beauty Day. Just thought I’d put a quick reminder out there for anyone in the New York City area. It is playing at the Museum of Modern Art as part of their Canadian Front program starting today and there are two screenings:

  • Sunday, March 20, 2011 @ 5:30 p.m., Theater 1
  • Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 4:00 p.m., Theater 3

Jay will be there for a Q&A after both screenings. We hope some of you can make it, but if you don’t live nearby, there will be more screenings announced soon. Beauty Day has also been confirmed for the Philadelphia Cinefest and Canadian dates should be announced in a couple of days.

For more info, check out this great write-up from the Toronto Star (which has some mild spoilers), or watch the trailer after the jump.

  • swarez

Congratulations Jay. Wish I could be there.

    What’s a Beauty Day?

  • Jonny Ashley

    Woo! Good luck, Jay!

  • Congratulations, Jay Cheel! I hope the premiere goes well. When you say Canadian dates will be announced (I live in Montréal), do you mean simply movie coming out in various cities or that + you guys doing Q&As?

  • Brendan

Hope the first screening went well! Can’t wait to hear about it. I’m assuming you’ll have post about it before next week’s podcast, but if not, I’m sure the podcast will be ripe with details. Have fun while you’re all there, too!

  • edgarchaput: I assume Jay will only be doing Q&As at any festival screenings. He is (unfortunately) not touring with the movie during its Canadian theatrical run.

Congrats Jay!! Hope all goes for you and it becomes a huge success. The trailer is amazing and I hope I get to watch it if it ever hits Sydney.

    Congrats again!!!

  • Sven

Will there be a recording of the Q&A put up on the site?

  • Mason

Philly too, that’s awesome. Not on the website schedule yet, so I’ll have to check back. Looks like they’re giving an award to John Carpenter at that festival.

Oh wait, I see it now, just didn’t come up in their search for some reason:

  • Congratulations Jay, the movie turned out great. I really enjoyed meeting you, Sean and Alicia. To those not in attendance, Jay made a joke about premiering the movie at the drive-in, and I think I was the only one that laughed.

Jay: Here is the question I wanted to ask you but I didn’t want to screw up your moment with such a stupid question: Is Cap’n Video the origin of the phrase “make some quiddly”?, I laughed when I heard him say that in the movie.

    Hey Jay,

Great film and the Q&A was also informative. You had some great off-the-cuff replies to some interesting questions. And it was also a pleasure to meet you on Sun night. When we talked, I mentioned that I work here at MoMA (HR Department) so I’ve been trying to get the word out as much as possible. It really is a big deal that your film had its premiere here at MoMA. Congrats again and I’m looking forward to your next project.

  • I’m proud to say that I was at the world premier of Beauty Day. It’s kind of weird that it was in the U.S., but I’m glad it was, because thats’s why I got to attend. It was a shame that I couldn’t stick around for the meet-up afterwards, but it was great to talk to everyone at the theater.

Also, Jay, I thought the Q&A went really well. You seemed nervous at first, but your answers were in-depth and well spoken. I’m guessing that the podcast had something to do with that.

  • Jay, congrats on being douchey enough that your film was played at an institute that thinks a bale of hay is art.

I would not have expected anything else from the erudite and eloquent Mr Chiel.

Congratulations on what seems to have been a well received film and event. If i could have swung time off work I would have been there for the film and as I love NY anyways.

Let us know when it comes to LA!

    Congrats Jay! Chicago awaits you…
