J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 Trailer

After a couple of tantalizing teaser trailers, this week the full theatrical trailer for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming movie Super 8 has finally debuted online over on Twitvid. Staying true to his penchant for preserving mystery, it lays the groundwork for the movie’s plot, but it still does not reveal anything about the supposed alien creature(s) that may or may not be involved. A group of kids making a movie with a Super 8 camera witness a massive train accident, and from there things just get crazy.

The movie stars Elle Fanning (Somewhere), Zach Mills and Gabriel Basso, while Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) plays the main kid’s father, who is also a police officer. Although the movie is directed by J.J. Abrams, it really seems like Steven Spielberg has had a major influence on the film… or at least, that’s how they are trying to sell it to us. Even the music (which I believe is from Cocoon) is a blast of nostalgia that takes us back to the heyday of ’80s science-fiction on the big screen. This is easily one of the most anticipated movies of the summer for me… what about you? Super 8 hits theatres on June 10th; check out the trailer after the jump.

The more I see from this the less I like it.

    The original trailer was AWESOME.

  • Ryan

You know I thought this was gonna be another shaky cam found footage movie and had zero interest in seeing another one of those. However this trailer made the movie zip straight up to the top of my ‘must see’ list this summer! the Spielberg vibe shines through and what a great idea to set it in the 70’s/80’s!!!

  • Niklas

wow, I was very interested in this movie until this trailer. I didn’t think these kids would be the focus point of the entire film..

  • The Man

I this looks amazing a great throw back adventure movie.

  • Ben

If you can’t appreciate this (especially if it’s because it’s focused on a group of kids) then you have no soul. On top of being soulless, you also negate any rights you assumed you had to bitch and moan about Hollywood releasing nothing but remakes and sequels.

  • The Man

    @Ben amen

  • KeithTalent

Well that looks way better than the crappy trailers they released earlier. Had zero interest before, but this looks pretty cool. I like the Friday Night Lights Dad; he makes a good Dad.

  • Falsk

    Haters gonna hate.

I am so on board. Looks siiick!!

  • Fatbologna

    I second Ben’s motion.

This looks like pure, unadulterated, 80s-era Speilberg type shit!!

    CAN’T WAIT!!

  • swarez

This is like classic Spielberg and Joe Dante. Hopefully it will be able to capture some of that magic.

  • projectgenesis

How lucky is JJ Abrams to get to play in the sandbox of 80s Amblin films? Can’t wait.

  • Yasser Serious

Ok, I get it – I’m the only one who wants SS to do something different for a change …..

  • Fatbologna

Yeah, because this looks exactly like Munich, which was exactly like Jurassic Park, which was exactly like Indiana Jones which was almost a copy of Schindler’s List which was the blueprint for Jaws and that film directly influenced Catch Me if you Can which led him to make Minority Report which seemed to be another telling of Saving Private Ryan which was loosely based on the character from The Terminal who was in some way based on Djimon Honsou’s character in Amistad who was on a boat, just like the captain in Hook which had a black person in it like The Color Purple which is a film about aliens or E.T.s (Extra Terrestrials) who started a War of the Worlds after many Close Encounters in 1941 with the Empire of the Sun…

    Yasser Serious is an idiot.

  • The Man

Well ss didn’t make this film he produced it. If you want to see a different kind of Steven Spielberg produced movie see true grit.

  • Yasser Serious

    That was mean Fatbologna …..

    Give me a hug.

  • Fatbologna

Alright, I’m sorry. I just really like The Beard is all.

  • Yasser Serious

I’m just clowning around, dude. I mean no one no harm.

It should be OK – Not Jaws, Munich, Schindler’s Lisp, or his BEST – MINORITY FUCKIN’ REPORT (Yes Frank, that was for you).

I’m just a little depressed that it’s not what I thought it’d be.

  • Gil

    I’m game for this.

I didn’t like the second trailer nearly as much as the first. The first one was so cool and the music was so awesome that it was just very intriguing and mysterious and I watched it over and over again. I thought it was hinting that the movie was possibly about super powered kids or something cool like that, like a live-action version of the old comic, I think it was called “Power Pack”.

The second trailer revealed to me what the movie is NOT about and I am slightly disappointed because of that, BUT, at the same time, I know it could still be the most awesome movie to come out this year, only time will tell.

theres way too many comic book geeks on addition of pretentious french new wavers on this site.

Movie looks great and entertaining, stop nit picking everything about every film. If you dont like what you see, dont go see it. Its that simple. Jesus.
