This Week on DVD: Jackass 3, Four Lions, The Walking Dead: Season 1

From flying porta-potties and bumbling Jihadists to the Third Reich and zombie plagues, not all of this week’s DVD releases will go over well with all viewers. However, there is definitely some stuff worth checking out, if you think you can stomach it. Major studio releases include Jackass 3 (available in true high-definition 3-D!), Morning Glory starring Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams, and The Next Three Days starring Russell Crowe. Non-fiction fans will want to check out Oscar-winning doc Inside Job and historically significant piece of Nazi propaganda A Film Unfinished, while Studio Ghibli fans should be excited to see the release of both Tales from Earthsea and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind on Blu-ray. All this plus the edgy British comedy Four Lions and the first season of AMC’s wildly popular adaptation of The Walking Dead. What will you be buying or renting this week? Is The Walking Dead worth buying on Blu-ray? I have not seen a single episode, but it’s only $28 at the Futureshop here and was thinking it might be worth picking up. Anyone here watched the entire first season?

  • If you aren’t sick of zombies it’s worth picking up. I loved the pilot but thought the rest of the season was hit and miss. Of course, the reason it is so cheap is because it’s only 6 episodes if I remember correctly.

I will pick up the BD of The Walking Dead – it was broadcast in HD so that’s how I want to keep it.

Thanks Sean, I’m just going to go ahead and grab it then. I’ve paid more for less, that’s for sure. Amazingly all of the Futureshops around here are sold out of The Cable Guy; need to wait for them to order more. Never realized other people loved that movie…

I was thinking at some point it may be worth having a restrospective look at the ‘2010 Fall TV Preview’ post to see what turned out to be good, and what didn’t. TWD was the highlight for me.

  • I’m not a zombie guy, and I loved The Walking Dead.
