Well I think comic book fans are going to be pretty happy with this announcement. It was revealed last week that Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) was one of a handful of directors that Marvel was considering to direct Iron Man 3. Now it appears that it’s no longer just a rumour. According to Deadline.com, he is in final negotiations to helm the third installment of the lucrative franchise, replacing Jon Favreau who left to direct Magic Kingdom for Disney.
As previously mentioned, Black is known more as a screenwriter than a director, having written scripts for Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 as well as The Monster Squad, Last Action Hero and The Last Boyscout. It still hasn’t been decided if he’ll write Iron Man 3, but I am guessing that means he probably won’t… which is unfortunate. Either way, after signing Joss Whedon for The Avengers, Marvel seems to be on the ball when it comes to attracting directors that carry some credibility. Are you excited to see Shane Black direct Iron Man 3?
