Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Roommate Moves In

It’s a bit hard to believe, but a pretty generic-looking Single White Female knockoff managed to sink a new 3D movie with James Cameron’s name attached to it, as The Roommate easily floated to victory over Sanctum this past weekend. It was the only film that grossed more than $10 million in what was supposedly the lowest attendance at the movies for a Super Bowl weekend in 15 years. Perhaps the main problem was that there was no major chick flick for women to flock to, although No Strings Attached did still manage third place. The King’s Speech and The Green Hornet rounded out the top 5, meanwhile, last weekend’s winner The Rite dropped like a rock all the way to #6. If there is one bright spot, it may be that Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan is now nearing the $100 million mark. Next weekend, Bieber Fever will likely turn things around.
