Film Junk Poll: Who is the Best James Bond Villain?

With the recent confirmation that Javier Bardem has been offered a role as the main villain in the next James Bond movie, I thought it might be an appropriate time to take stock of some of the more memorable adversaries that 007 has faced in his 22 movie career. The best Bond flicks seem to stand out due to their top notch bad guys, and while it’s unclear what Bardem means when he says, “they’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic”, he’s still going to be competing with the memory of quite a few classic characters from the past. Which one is your favourite? Cast your vote in this week’s poll and then sound off in the comments below.

This got to be by far my favorite FJ poll question. I voted for Francisco Scaramanga..

Honorable mention: Renard played by Robert Carlyle.

  • Rather than vote for the bad guy with the third nipple, I chose the one who uttered the memorable line “No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die”.

  • I hope that Travelyan doesn’t win just because most people haven’t seen many/any of the pre-Brosnan Bond films and place all of their chickens in Goldeneye’s basket just because of the video game.

Goldfinger is a decent choice because his plan was pretty brilliant. However, I do not care much for the movie because Bond is a bumbling moron in this film who constantly needs to be saved by other people. If it weren’t for the bomb squad showing up just in time, Goldfinger would have succeeded in detonating his nuclear device.

My vote is for Blofeld because he was the main man (though frequently behind the scenes) in 6 of the first 7 films (Goldfinger, to my knowledge, was not affiliated with SPECTRE), and of those 6 films, Diamonds Are Forever is the only one I didn’t care for.

So yes, pre-plastic surgery Blofeld FTW.

I had to go with Walken. He was just too much fun. Though by the bulk the dude with the cat is the one to pick I suppose.

  • Jaws forever!

  • Werner

    JAWS!!!

  • Jaws wins my vote, the dude chewed through steel cable.

It’s Jaws… why are we even debating this?

  • Lots of excellent choices–and props to Rian for favoring Trevelyn, who changes the whole Bond dynamic. Klebb has an awesome iciness that mirrors Bond’s; Goldfinger has the best lines, and Oddjob defined the “Bond” henchman; Dr. No is right up there, too. Scaramanga isn’t too good a villain, but who doesn’t love Christopher Lee? And Red Grant is an all-out badass.

Scaramanga. Dude was probably the only villain as cool, badass and suave as Bond. The fact he was played by Christopher Lee, whose exploits partly inspired the Bond character is just icing.

Though Jaws is probably the most physically memorable one. Dude’s just a giant with metal teeth.
