Big Surprise… Twilight and The Last Airbender Lead the 2011 Razzie Nominations

This year’s Academy Award nominees are currently being announced as I write this, but yesterday the Razzies unveiled their full list of nominees as well. This is the annual celebration of “the worst that Hollywood has to offer”, although over the past few years it has become increasingly clear that they only pick on movies and celebrities that are already easy targets. As you might expect, this year The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender led the way with 9 nominations each.

Somehow it does seem a bit ironic that a Twilight movie is nominated in the same year as the Twilight parody Vampires Suck. If they love making fun of Twilight so much, you’d think the folks from the Razzies would have loved it! Also, poor Rob Schneider… why is he the only one that gets called out from Grown Ups? So predictable. Do you agree with this year’s nominees, or are there other movies that deserve to be on the list? Check out the full list of Razzie nominations after the jump.

  • Rob Schnider was the only funny performance in Grown Up’s… and Stallone for Worst Director? WTF

  • Juan

Stallone worst director? what the hell? I mean The Expendables is not the cure of cancer but it sure doesnt deserve to get nominated for a razzie

  • Hugh

What about the awful SATC nonsense????

  • Anthony

Jessica Alba wasn’t that bad in Machete…

  • wow, M. Night could sweep

  • Alba doesnt deserve the nomination for machete but sure as hell for her weird performance in Little Fockers! But why is streisand nominated there? She was barely in the movie!

Twilight is an easy Target to get the Hits the Razzies need. Every comment the Fans are posting on any of these blogs or sites , that its not fair to get this nomination for Twilight, gives the Advertisers the chance to strut their stuff. Caleb Nation on U Tube calls it “The Haterz Pay our Bill Award” so you click on Worst Movie, WorstActor, Worst Actress, Worst Couple..here they have 4 Hits for the Ad Machine from each of you. Its actually a brilliant Marketing Scheme and shows u again how easy it is to make money of this franchise.

  • rjdelight

The Last Airbender is nowhere near worst of the year. People love to hate M.Night. Then again the razzies are the biggest waste of time, so I have no idea why I’m even complaining…

  • Falsk

@rjdelight – Totally agree on every account. Lay off the Night, dudes.

  • Rus in Chicago

M night deserves everything he gets for spoiling one of the richest pieces of material to come along in a long time. What a waste. His biggest weaknessis his backbone, read The Man That Would Here Voices to understand his fall

  • rjdelight

I’ve heard that’s a great read, but I still think he gets shit on way too much.

  • My bad: The Man Who Heard Voices: Or, How M. Night Shyamalan Risked His Career on a Fairy Tale

  • Henrik

I recommend The Man Who Heard Voices: Or, How M. Night Shyamalan Risked His Career on a Fairy Tale And Lost, which is the 2nd edition of the book.

It has a foreword by David Bordwell (Film Theory demigod for academics), and a new afterword by Bamberger, regarding the reception of the movie, and an explanation of the terrible title change.

The last Airbender was a mind-bender. Every cliché that epitomizes poor acting, wretched directing, ho-hum special effects, pathetic screen writing and an overwhelming bad movie experience is neatly wrapped up in this picture This may well go down in movie history as the most expensive, over hyped movie of all time. Thankfully, it has left the theatres. Much to everyone’s chagrin, it is still available on DVD at the red box outside Walgreens where it seems to be as wanted as dandelions in a botanical garden.
The child actor appeared to have been trained during a two week crash course at the Acme School of Acting and Brain Surgery. The $29.95 tuition fee should be refunded and the child’s nepotistic connections should be revealed which would explain the casting decision to a bewildered audience.
    M. Night Shyamalan’s films have all been downhill since his initial successes with The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. He has lost his touch. His films are not anticipated any more. It’s unfortunate but currently during previews at the movies it’s hard not to notice the guffaws and chuckling when Shymalan’s name appears in the credits or is mentioned by an announcer.

The Last Airbender was pretty bad, derivative, unoriginal, boring, horribly-written. But it wasn’t as offensively bad as fucking Twilight 3.
