I wanted to like it – hoping for a great Coen brothers movie. I was bored, the story line was very drawn out and half of what Jeff Bridges said was unintelligible.
The movie is vastly overrated and it was a relief when it ended.

True Grit was not very good. I wanted to like it…but didn’t. Very generic story. If the Coens really wanted to do a western, why not write their own? They are definitely good enough and original enough to come up with a great western tale.

Granted, I’ve never seen the original and I knew nothing about the story other than what I saw in the trailer, but as far as a straight forward movie goes, True Grit was a disappointment. Maybe the original wasn’t very good?

I like Bridges and Damon’s take on the characters a lot more, and definitely prefer the Mattie in the remake, the original is nowhere nearly as strongly developed. When you add Deakins to the equation I just don’t see the argument for the original.
