Jodie Foster’s The Beaver Trailer Starring Mel Gibson

As Aaron reported late last week, despite all the controversy and commotion, Summit Entertainment have decided that they are going to release Jodie Foster’s The Beaver in theatres after all. This will be the first Mel Gibson movie to follow his most recent public meltdown, and after his proposed cameo in The Hangover 2 was quashed he will no doubt be hoping this helps restore his career somewhat. The question is, will the general public give him another chance, and more importantly, will the movie be any good?

The first trailer for The Beaver has finally been released online, and I don’t know what most people were expecting, but it looks surprisingly serious and sentimental. The story is about a man who suffers from depression and attempts to reclaim his life and his family through the help of a hand puppet. This doesn’t appear to be a dark comedy, at any rate. The movie is directed by Jodie Foster, who also stars in the film, with a supporting cast that includes Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence. I’m still curious, and I suspect this movie will do quite well based on curiosity alone, but the truth is it doesn’t look all that promising. The release date for The Beaver is still TBA; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

This looks pretty intriguing Mel beavering away.

You guys should check out the The Beaver Recut trailer with Mel Gibson’s infamous rant:

  • kyri

I stopped the trailer half way through.
    (it gives away too much)

    I am ON BOARD.

    Mel is the MAN.

  • BigHungry

This is not what I was thinking this would be…. more sappy than I thought.

  • MikeH

this definitely looks different, i will check it out for sure. hopefully this will put Mel back into the right direction.

  • Gil

Definitely sappy. But I did think it was interesting that Jodie only starts to consider letting Mel back into her life once he starts being more successful. Ha, as if Mel even had to ask to be forgiven. It’s all good buddy.

  • Rick

at one point in time i heard that Mel was going to direct a movie like apocolyptica, only it had to do with vikings. Is anything going on with that?

  • @Rick,

I too am still awaiting Mel’s Viking movie. If he can do what he did with Apocolypto for Vikings, I am SOLD.

  • Matt

It does seem interesting, but the trailer gives a lot of the movie away.

  • THe Dude

    “Gives away a lot”?
Naw, man, the trailer gives away everything.
Thx, dont have to see it anymore.

  • Teo

I was laughing. This is a comedy right? I’m sorry but I can’t take Mel talking to a beaver seriously.
