As Aaron reported late last week, despite all the controversy and commotion, Summit Entertainment have decided that they are going to release Jodie Foster’s The Beaver in theatres after all. This will be the first Mel Gibson movie to follow his most recent public meltdown, and after his proposed cameo in The Hangover 2 was quashed he will no doubt be hoping this helps restore his career somewhat. The question is, will the general public give him another chance, and more importantly, will the movie be any good?
The first trailer for The Beaver has finally been released online, and I don’t know what most people were expecting, but it looks surprisingly serious and sentimental. The story is about a man who suffers from depression and attempts to reclaim his life and his family through the help of a hand puppet. This doesn’t appear to be a dark comedy, at any rate. The movie is directed by Jodie Foster, who also stars in the film, with a supporting cast that includes Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence. I’m still curious, and I suspect this movie will do quite well based on curiosity alone, but the truth is it doesn’t look all that promising. The release date for The Beaver is still TBA; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
