Open Forum Friday: Where are the Best Black Friday Deals?

Well there really isn’t much in the way of movie news this week, since everyone is either recovering from Thanksgiving or out there braving the Black Friday crowds, but I thought maybe this would be a good chance for people to share any movie-related deals they may have come across in stores or online. As always, Amazon seems to have some decent sales going on into the weekend (check out their Lightning Deals calendar for details), but I haven’t been following many of the other retail offerings. Does anyone out there have any worthwhile recommendations?

I realize that it’s probably already too late to get some of the limited door crasher deals, but surely there are still some good buys to be found. Feel free to regale us with your shopping horror stories or gloat about any of the sweet bargains you managed to score. Do you participate in Black Friday regularly? What is on your shopping list this year? Are all the best deals online or is there still a good reason to fight through the angry mobs of consumer zombies? Give us your hot tips here on Open Forum Friday!

Seems like everyone must be out shopping or passed out from turkey comas.

Luckily, there are quite a few Canadian stores that are trying to keep us from shopping over the border by matching American deals. If I had known that, I would have taken the day off!

I just picked up a bunch of blu-rays at amazon.com. Even if I had to pay like $40 shipping and $30 import fee I still saved $150 compared to Canadian prices..

Target. I got Hellboy 2 and Kingdom of Heaven on Blu for $7.99 each. I promised myself I would stop buying movies, but I couldn’t resist.

Last year I picked up Five seasons of Lost on Blu-Ray for $100 around this time on Amazon.com. This year the complete Lost collection in the crazy box was only $125 for the Blu-Ray Where is Doc Brown when you need him?

  • Just did some video game shopping today… these online deals are killing me.

    – Super Mario Galaxy 2 for $35 on Amazon
    – Torchlight, Machinarium and World of Goo for $5 each on Steam
    – Joe Danger and DeathSpank for $7.49 each on PSN
    – ‘Splosion Man and TMNT: Turtles in Time Reshelled for 160 MSP each on XBLA
    – Trials HD for 400 MSP on XBLA

Amazon is beating everyone this year. There are also places like PC Richards and hhgregg in my area who match prices for electronics of stores like Best Buy as long as they aren’t “door busters”. Probably will buy my TV from there… once I can decide on a decent model/size.

But as for Amazon… $10 Blu-ray Mad Men seasons? O-kay!

Joe Danger is a great game. I was addicted to playing it a few months back. Might be time for a revisit.

I picked up the Alien Anthology blu-ray from Amazon while it was still being offered with Last of the Mohicans for $65 combined. I later returned Mohicans to my local Best Buy for a $20 credit, and picked up Halo Reach yesterday from them, already discounted to $40.

I’ve also got my eye on the Back to the Future blu-ray set, which Amazon has on its lightning deal schedule for Monday morning.
