Your Highness Red Band Trailer Starring Danny McBride and James Franco

Get thee over to IGN, peasants… the long-awaited first trailer for Your Highness has finally arrived online, and it looks pretty amazing. The movie has been described as both a stoner comedy and a throwback to ’80s fantasy, it was easily one of my most anticipated movies of 2010… you know, back when it was still supposed to come out in 2010. It stars Danny McBride as a lazy prince who must help his brother (James Franco) embark on an epic quest to save their father’s kingdom. It is directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Eastbound & Down) and written by McBride and long-time collaborator Ben Best (The Foot Fist Way).

The movie will be rated R, and in order to capture the true spirit of the film, they decided to lead off with a red band trailer. Unfortunately, the trailer does run surprisingly long (three and a half minutes), so if you’re sensitive to spoilers you may just want to skim it. I will say that the first half of the trailer felt a little off to me… the music and the editing made it almost feel like another Epic Movie. However, by the time the action really kicks in, I was completely sold (not that the cast and director alone wouldn’t have sold me on it anyway). The movie also co-stars Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel and Justin Theroux… are you looking forward to Your Highness?     I can’t wait for this, action looks amazing, but the jokes are the typical trailer bullshit. I definitely expect this movie to be way funnier than a guy falling down stairs and a guy simulating oral sex.

    It feels like The Princess Bride with profanity and more profanity and more profanity…and maybe this is me but the movie seems to be trying really hard for laughs. Maybe a little to hard.

    Though you can’t dismiss the hotness of the two ladies like NP and ZD! Sweetness!

    Those accents are ridiculous. I watched this trailer high last night…i’m not really sure. I was sold in the first 10 seconds of the Pineapple Express trailer.

  • I just rewatched to see if I was missing anything. Can anyone give me one specific example from this trailer that they legitimately find funny?

    I liked the “remain perfectly still” bit – but only in barely passing amusement. The rest of this angers me with its unfunniness.

  • The Pineapple Express Trailer was better cut together than this one, this plays much more like a short ‘sizzle reel’ than a regular 2 min trailer. The Pineapple Express also had that MIA song and some slow-motion dancing attached to it, which really made it stylish looking. I’m quite surprised how flat Tim Orr’s cinematography is here compared to his earlier collaborations with DGG, but I do find the goofball shtick on display here to be funny…

    Hope the swearing is less pronounced than it is in the trailer. Definitely excited for the movie, but breaking character/period with casual expletives just feels lazy to me. “Triangle face” was my favorite joke.

    I really thought this was just a stoner comedy, but the trailer shows a bit than that. I’m looking forward to this film still and looks to be a good film to watch with your buds.

  • I was going to rag Andrew James but then I remember how funny the Year One trailer was then we got in to 2 hours of the modern references in an ancient setting and will…it really didn’t live up to the hype.

    saying that, my gut thinks this one will get it right.

    Natalie Portman is freaking hot and its really nice to see her in a movie like this. McBride is starting to come out into more of a lead character so we will see how he can handle it, and did i mention that Natalie Portman is freaking hot!!!
