Cowboys & Aliens Trailer Starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford

Apparently it’s a big week for trailer releases, and today we’ve got the first look at yet another major comic book movie that is hitting theatres next summer. However, for once, it’s not a Marvel or DC superhero flick… instead, it’s a movie based on an indie graphic novel called Cowboys & Aliens. Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Zathura) is helming this big budget sci-fi western, and it’s got a lot of other heavy-hitters involved including screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek), and executive producer Steven Spielberg. Did I mention Harrison Ford? How great is it to see him back in an action role that isn’t Indiana Jones?

Considering that it’s not a sequel, remake or something based on a well-known property, I guess they really had to cover all their bases, but after watching the trailer I don’t think they have anything to worry about. Daniel Craig stars as a mysterious stranger in mid-19th century Arizona with no memory of his past. He finds himself imprisoned by the locals until one day alien invaders swoop down from the sky. Harrison Ford plays the merciless Col. Woodrow Dolarhyde, while Olivia Wilde (The O.C., Tron: Legacy) plays the love interest. We all know that science-fiction and westerns haven’t mixed all that well in the past (ie. Wild Wild West, Jonah Hex) but this seems like it has a lot going for it. Is this the real movie we should all be looking forward to next summer? Cowboys & Aliens hits theatres on July 29th, 2011; check out the trailer after the jump.

  • Good trailer. Another movie to look forward to in 2011.

I’m not sure why but I was expecting this film to be a comedy. Sure doesn’t look like it from the trailer.

  • Derek

    I’m There!!!

  • Mike

whoa whoa whoa…Serenity and Firefly were western and sci-fi.

  • Xidor

When I saw Ron Howard’s name I started to panic, but seeing Spielberg’s name calmed me down again.

  • MikeH

this looks like it will be a wild ride and yes it is really nice to see HArrison Ford back in action roles that doesnt have Indy Jones at the beginning of the title. really looking forward to this one.

  • Falsk

I mean, it’s just nice to see Harrison Ford doing something other than, you know, “Morning Glory”.

Also… this looks like fun. 8D

  • anton

That looks like heaps of fun. Although I don’t know why, but Daniel doesn’t work as a cowboy to me. Perhaps I change my mind after seeing the film. Had similar doubts before James Bond, he proved me wrong.

  • Napalm

^ i kind of agree with anton. throughout the trailer i just kept going “dude, that’s James Bond” haha. but nah, that’s the least of my worries regarding this film. everything looks great. i’m there.

  • kyri

They just had to named it Cowboys and Aliens..

    Isn’t it a bit uninspired?

  • Ben

Kyri, I’m uninspired by the fact that you can’t realize it’s a play on the phrase “cowboys and indians”

  • Chris

spielberg sure has a thing for aliens…

  • Niklas

and thats a problem for you?

  • kyri

    @Ben

You know what would be even more awesome? The aliens turn out to be the Navis from Avatar..

  • Steve K

Really good trailer. Also, it proves to me why Daniel Craig is the man!

  • Marcus Mallard

All I can say is “Of course, Spielberg would have an Executive Producer credit on a movie about aliens. Big surprise.”

  • 1138

Oh boy Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci not exactly the most talented writers around…I mean transformers and Star Trek?

But I’ve got to admit the trailer looked good and with talents like Ford, Craig, and Favreau this movie has a chance.

Plus how much can Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci mess this up? This is based on existed material with storyline already constructed…thay can’t mess it up can they?

  • dickweed

Are you people serious? Aliens vs. cowboys? This looks completely retarded. Trailer is lame and very boring. It’s gonna be a HUGE bomb at the BO.

  • Matt

@kyri do you realize that it’s based on the graphic novel?

  • Awesooooome! But, yeah, I can see it flopping.
