Blinky Teaser Trailer Starring Max Records

A few years back, when we first started hearing rumours about a possible live action Akira movie, the director who was attached to the project was an Irish filmmaker named Ruairi Robinson. At the time, no one knew much about him except for the fact that he had a background in visual effects, and he had directed two short films, one of which was nominated for an Academy Award. The Hughes Brothers have since taken his place on Akira, but Robinson is now in the process of putting together his first feature, a sci-fi film called Blinky™.

The movie stars Max Records (Where The Wild Things Are) as a young boy named Alex, who wants a robot companion for Christmas. However, despite the robot’s perma-smile, the teaser trailer clearly indicates that there is something sinister going on beneath his pleasant domed exterior. The trailer reminds me a bit of A.I., and it seems to have a Spike Jonze feel to it as well (the involvement of Max Records indicates that it’s probably not an accident), but the premise seems intriguing enough to set itself apart and the CG work is strong. With a teaser that is only 40 seconds long, there isn’t much to go on, but it definitely made me curious to see more from this film so I think it did its job. No word on when Blinky™ might get released, but I’m guessing we will see it on the festival circuit sometime next year. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Cool trailer. Kinda has the circa 1970’s paranoia sensibility about it. And yeah the look does have that A.I. feel but with a more disturbed lens. Definitely interested in catching it.

I still can’t believe that kid’s name is Max Records.

this was better than the green lantern. Jonny, I feel you man.

I would love to see this in theatres, but thats not gonna be possible, since I do not live in the U.S., and my country only shows big budget Hollywood movies in theatres.

So unfortunately I may have to download it :(…..

And no I cant buy the DVD either because they arent available except again Hollywood blockbusters and no I cant buy it from AMazon because they don’t accept my country’s credit cards…..
