Jack Black Looking to Survive a Robot Uprising

With the recent news that Steven Spielberg is directing an adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s Robopocalypse, it seems that Wilson’s other books are quickly becoming a hot commodity as well. His first book How To Survive A Robot Uprising was published back in 2005 and it is a mock guidebook filled with tongue-in-cheek tips on how to deal with malevolent robots, partially based on scientific fact. The book was optioned by Paramount and at one point had Mike Myers attached to star, but the option has since expired. Now this week we’ve got news that Jack Black has jumped on the opportunity and re-acquired the rights himself.

According to io9, Black will be teaming up with and Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink to bring How to Survive a Robot Uprising to the big screen. It’s unclear at this time if Black is planning on starring in the film himself, but it seems a safe bet as he hasn’t produced much outside of his own material thus far. It’s also unclear whether or not the old script written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911!, Night at the Museum, Balls of Fury) is still in play.

Either way, it sounds like there is a good combination of talent involved to bring this movie to fruition. Perhaps the more important unanswered question is whether or not the movie will feature a checklist of rules for surviving robot attacks a la Zombieland. Because we all know at least one person who wouldn’t be too happy about that.
