Paul Trailer Starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting the competition of the trilogy that was started with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, well, you’ll have to wait a bit longer because it’s probably still a few years away. In the meantime, however, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are getting back together in the absence of director Edgar Wright to offer up a new comedy called Paul. They both collaborated on a script that harkens back to the days of Spaced; it revolves around two sci-fi / comic book geeks on a road trip across the U.S. who encounter a real-life alien.

The movie is directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad, Adventureland), and it’s jam-packed with comedic talent including the likes of Jane Lynch, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Jeffrey Tambor, David Koechner, and the voice of Seth Rogen. However, the first teaser trailer hasn’t really blown me away. It’s a bit short, and to be honest feels like it could quickly become a Fanboys or Galaxy Quest clone. One interesting thing is that the alien himself is fully CG and the effects seem pretty decent for a comedy. I’m still holding out hope for this flick, but it won’t be surprising if the lack of Edgar Wright keeps this from being as good as their last two films together. Paul hits theatres on March 18th, 2011; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  • Napalm

new Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.. add Mottola and Seth Roga. what more could i ask for?

  • Marcus Mallard

Looks like a good time to me.

  • Drewsifer

Always on board for nick and Simon, met Simon Pegg once and it just solidified my love for the man. With no Edgar Weight though I hope they can obtain the frenetic comedy they have ha with previous films.

  • anton

    heh. looks fun.

  • I dont know it looks pretty good to me as well. I mean like you said Sean the trailer is really short, theres not much to say. I just hope the alien does some sort drugs in the movie.

  • This trailer kills the massive interest I had in the film. The alien looks awful (worse than the CGI in Aliens In the Attic) and Rogen’s voice with it only makes it worse. Give me Jay Baruchel in an alien suit.
