Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Social Network Wins Three Horse Race

It’s Thanksgiving here in Canada today so there probably won’t be many other updates on the site, but I thought we should take a quick look at the box office numbers from this past weekend. I’m happy to report that The Social Network has remained in the #1 spot for the second week in a row, which proves that sometimes good movies do find an audience! It just barely edged out Life as We Know It and Secretariat, both of which gave Mark Zuckerberg a run for his money. Legend of the Guardians and My Soul to Take rounded out the top 5. Sadly, Let Me In has already plummeted out of the top 10, making just $2.4 million in its second week. I guess pre-pubescent vampires just don’t sell like sparkling ones do.

1. The Social Network — $15.5M
2. Life as We Know It — $14.6M
3. Secretariat — $12.6M
4. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole — $7.01M
5. My Soul to Take — $6.92M
6. The Town — $6.35M
7. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps — $4.62M
8. Easy A — $4.2M
9. Case 39 — $2.63M
10. You Again — $2.47M

Good to see Fincher doing well. Not much competition though. Not that it should be a competition really. How about a show on Fincher like the one you did for Chris Nolan.

if LET ME IN was an original movie and we all hadnt seen LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, it would have been huge

  • Personally I don’t think that the reason Let Me In failed is because it was a remake. The whole point of remaking it was to bring it to the huge number of mainstream moviegoers who don’t even know what the original is. I’d be willing to bet that the only people who did actually see it were the fans of the original as well.
