Christopher Guest to Tackle Collectors in Next Film

For all you mockumentary fans out there, the creative minds behind Waiting For Guffman and Best in Show are lining up a new film. That’s right, director Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean are teaming up to deliver their next film, this time focusing on the world of retro collectors. Women on the Web states that the usual cast members from past Guest films are being considered, such as Parker Posey, Michael Patrick Higgins, and Jane Lynch. I’m sure that other regulars like Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Jennifer Coolidge will be getting involved as the project develops. It’s not actually said whether the film will be a mockumentary or more traditional narrative like For Your Consideration.

This seems like a perfect pairing of material and talent. Guest and company are experts at exploring these little sub-cultures and milking the eccentricities of the people who inhabit them. Seriously, I can’t think of any other subject matter that lends itself better to their brand of humor, can you? The only thing I could see taking away from from the film would be the plethora of reality shows and documentaries that cover similiar ground. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to this film and what comedy gets mined from the subject. What are your thoughts on the latest idea from the Guest comedy troupe?

Whoa. That picture is freaking me out. I think Harry Shearer has one too many hands. But yea, I’d be totally up for another Guest movie as long as it’s more like the earlier ones and less like Consideration. I hope he learned his lesson. Maybe another subject that might work well is if they were playing trekkies. It could feature awesome cameos by the original Star Trek cast.

I would love to see Will Ferrell work with Guest. He seems to be big on improv when working on his films, so who better to collaborate than arguably the king of improv films – Guest. If not Ferrell then a few others. Seeing the exact same people in all of Guest’s films is getting to be a bit stale.

    lol, @ Matt J.

Just noticed that pic after posting my comment. It is weird. I wonder if that’s deliberate.

Ferrell would be good with Guest, He would bring a bit of spontaneity to proceedings. I didn’t like For Your Consideration, I thought the ending was terrible. Best in Show was a lot funnier than A Mighty Wind but neither were half as good as Guffman.
