The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Lands Role in Sherlock Holmes 2

There’s no denying that Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy has long since passed the tipping point and is well on its way to becoming a full-blown phenomenon. The success of the book series has led to massive interest in the film adaptations, and even with an English language remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on the way, the original Swedish films have done quite well for themselves as well. The success has also made Swedish actress Noomi Rapace a hot commodity in Hollywood thanks to her memorable portrayal of the main character Lisbeth Salander. After some recent talk about her possibly being an Oscar contender this year, it looks like she has now landed her first English-speaking role in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes 2.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rapace will play the female lead in the upcoming sequel, which will shoot later in the year. Although the details of the character are still under wraps, it is being said that she may be playing a French gypsy. The main villain is expected to be criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty, and the movie will also reportedly feature an appearance from Holmes’ brother, Mycroft.
While it remains to be seen if Noomi Rapace can successfully make the transition to Hollywood, she’s certainly got a lot of momentum behind her right now. She has been compared to other successful foreign actresses such as Marion Cotillard, and supposedly speaks very good English. What do you think, is Sherlock Holmes 2 a good choice for Rapace, and does she have a bright future ahead of her?
