Star Wars Uncut Fan Remake Finished and Now Playing Online

Just a year or so after hatching the idea for Star Wars Uncut, the project has been completed and is now available online for public viewing. Casey Pugh, an employee at video sharing site Vimeo, thought it would be interesting to break up Star Wars into 15 second segments and ask fans to recreate the movie in any way they see fit. The resulting film is a wacky kaleidoscope of creativity and geeky obsession, and I believe it premiered at CPH: PIX in Denmark earlier this year.

Although they claim to be clearing up the rights issues to officially release the entire thing online, you can already watch it in its entirety on Vimeo because they’ve managed to tie each of the clips together so that they play in sequence one after the other. It may seem a little bit jarring, but hey, it works. Watch the whole movie over on the official website now, or check out a clip from the finished movie after the jump.

Jesus Christ, this looks so shit before the 2 minute mark! Bunch of sad bastards running around their bedrooms. Who on earth thought this was a good idea??????!!!!

And people like you tell us that Lucas if milking the fucking saga? Just look how the fan people deal with it, and right now you are taking part of it!

  • Yeah, there are some shitty parts for sure. The good news is they’re only 15 seconds long. The creative ones are fantastic. Where is people’s sense of artfulness?

Some of the animation and humor in here is great. I liked all of the Tarantino references – which no one saw because they didn’t bother to get more than 2 minutes in.

Seriously. It’s different and fan made so it’s terrible? C’mon.

@Mr. Nobody: A fan can’t “milk” the Star Wars franchise, because a fan makes no money off a project like “Star Wars Uncut.” Lucas has been accused of “milking” the franchise because he owns the rights and has been continually “revisiting” the movies, re-releasing them in a variety of formats and continuing to merchandise them just to make more money. That is the definition of “milking.” Fans might perpetuate Lucas’s ability to continue making money off of Star Wars, but this “Star Wars Uncut” is pretty innocuous. In fact, it could more rightly be described as parody, which can be done be die-hard fans and haters alike.
