Skyline Trailer: Another Alien Invasion Flick

As I mentioned previously, there are a ton of alien invasion flicks in development right now, and here’s yet another one to add to the list. The first time anyone had really seen or heard anything about Skyline was at this year’s Comic-Con, and now the first teaser trailer has been released online. It seems to be a pretty straightforward Independence Day-esque tale about hostile aliens coming to Earth and obliterating the planet.

According to the plot synopsis, strange lights appear in the sky above Los Angeles, drawing people outside and then sucking them up into oblivion. The trailer doesn’t show all that much, but it’s certainly enough to get me interested. Skyline is directed by Colin and Greg Strause, who previously directed Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. They are also doing visual effects for another upcoming alien invasion movie, Battle: Los Angeles. What do you think, does this have potential or will it just be a mindless CG-fest? Skyline hits theatres on November 12th; check out the trailer after the jump.

  • Great trailer. But film probably awful.

  • Big Hungry

Looks cool but kind of reminds me of the War of The Worlds vibe…if this film is from the guys he did AVP:Requiem then I don’t know if I have much hope for this movie…but the trailer does indeed look cool.

  • What are people seeing in this trailer that is any good? It’s just a photocopy Independence Day, and that bit where cg people are being sucked up into the air is baaaaad.

  • Patrick H.

I wonder what landmarks will be blown up in this one? My money is on Mt. Rushmore.

  • this trailer looks like an Andrew Kramer tutorial.

  • Niklas

that was people? I love alien invasion movies so Im interested

  • Sweet StarCraft movie.

  • Big Hungry

    AVP:Requiem…. ouch!

  • GregNiess

Okay I’m in and I don’t need much. Just be better than the Day the Earth Stood Still remake.

  • antho42

Looks like a bad video game.

  • Alex

I saw the panel for this at Comic-Con, and it looks like another run of the mill action movie. Not particularly bad, but nothing really special about it either.

  • Napalm

visually it looks interesting, but the trailer just screams 2012-esque cheese! also, am I the only one who thinks there’s an overload of alien films going on right now? it’s as if everyone trying to ride the success of D9.

  • Xidor

Sometimes I wish aliens would just attack and get it over with for real, so we could kick their ass. Maybe Jay could make a documentary about the invasion, but I worry that his take on it may be too objective and then I would side with the aliens instead of humanity.

  • Cody

Aren’t we getting tired of alien invasion flicks already? The premise has been so overdone in my opinion. I’d rather see hollywood try something a bit more original with it like District 9 or Cloverfield but not necessarily with just the first person camera view. Of course, large budget hollywood films generally suck anyways and expecting hollywood to come out with something original is of course expecting too much.

  • Neo

How can anyone give a negative opinion about a movie if it hasn’t even come out??? Very much looking forward to this one!

  • andy

AVP-R was piece of junk. this movie will be the same. the brothers hav an amazing eye for epic visual effects but when it comes down to wake really makes the movie like plot, script, and well everything else that makes a good movie. They lack the overall understanding of what movies goers want and like. Take this movie Aliens attack
    – Independence day
    – day the earth stood still
    – mars attacks
    – men in black 1 & 2
    – invasion of the body snatchers
the list goes on and on.

Make a movie with more to it. D9 was a well written movie with a good story line. They even used alot of props from the halo movie that didnt make it

  • andy

    forgive my spelling

  • iMorbit

Reminds me of Collectors, like the aftermath of Mass Effect 2 if Shepard had failed and Collectors had attacked earth.

  • Zak12

This movie looks like a combination between Independence Day and Transformers. I like alien invasion movies, unlike some other posters, actually like the new Day the Earth Stood still and did not like District 9 (space Alien illegal immigrant roaches)could quite get into that. Why concerns me about Skyline is the end, obviously these aliens have for more advanced technology currently available to mankind, so if they are beaten by mankind’s F-16 bombers this movie would be totally phony.

  • therbertme

We’ve all seen this movie before.

  • Tom

Amongst the glut of forthcoming alien invasion films
(that all seem to be intent on aping the mixed-media style of District 9), this one seems the most promising, although there are derivative elements.

  • Nick

wow another Independance Day/War of the Worlds movie… and tons of hype. bet it sucks like District 9 -.- seriously, all the good scenes from that movie, was in the trailers and i suspect the same of skyline…. lets not waste our money…AvP Requiem sucked so we should know not to expect much. its a B movie with good special effects. thats it.

It is no coincidence that Hollywood is producing more and more alien invasion films. Each one becoming more and more open about its’ gnostic message (a movement who takes biblical truth and turns them upside down). They claim something or someone is coming to our planet and it’s not friendly. This time around there are lights, there are aliens, there are people being taken up into the air (disappearing into oblivion by force), depicted as an evil thing. This comes very close to being a distorted version of the Biblical account foretold by prophets and confirmed by Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus said, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:3) St. Paul further describes this coming of Christ; “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17) Notice that the destination is paradise, not oblivion or worse. Hollywood is preparing the masses for the great deception. Will you be deceived too? “…Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) I rather choose God’s reality rather than Hollywood’s!

Actually, some may see this stream of Alien Invasion movies as a warning of some sort. Look at the TV Series V. The Reptillians are known in Psychic circles as a species of aliens who had dealings with Pres Eisenhower back in the 1950’s.

They already set up a base in Area 51 and have the permission of the US Govt to do Lab experiments there on a small percent of US abductees.

It seems only natural that they will at some point show themselves, come out of hiding and tell us about their hidden base on the Moon, which was incedentally discovered by NASA in 1969, during their last Moon visit. It is also interesting to note that the Govt of India has leaked that it has been engaging in talks with ETs and they are builing a landing spot for ET ships. They have also recently been given the list of Do’s and Donts on Interdimensional Travel. Suddenly US Pres Obama is visiting India tomorrow. Probably to go and check it out for himself.

Some will want to warn us about the deceptions of our governments and the ETs, while others will want to view them as friendlies who are helping us.

I would say take the message, heed the warnings and dont trust anyone.

  • DDW

Umm… What’s with the sudden conspiracy theories? These are movies (most likely bad ones at that) and have NOTHING to with our alien overlords.

  • Paul

OK, I expected the area 51 and alien moonbase fans to give their opinions but the Jesus mind invaders? Can’t help thinking of the Borg; ‘Resistance is futile’, we will assimilate everything of you, including your movie threads.
‘Oh and while we’ve got you in our tractor beam, we’d like to talk to you about Jesus.’

  • Evo

yeah…pretty much everyone is right the movie sucks had no point what so ever. really corny.

  • Filghi
