Zhang Yimou’s A Woman, A Gun and a Noodle Shop Trailer (Blood Simple Remake)

When the first trailer for Zhang Yimou’s Blood Simple remake appeared online last year, it all seemed like an elaborate hoax of some sort. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it certainly looked like a movie directed by the same guy who did Hero and House of Flying Daggers, but the surreal style and wacky comedy looked nothing like The Coen Brothers film on which it was supposedly based. I guess no one can complain that this remake is redundant, at any rate.

This week a domestic trailer for the film has arrived online courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics. The North American title of the film is A Woman, A Gun and a Noodle Shop, and the trailer makes it very clear that this movie is based on Blood Simple. It also goes out of its way to tone down the goofiness and to make some connection to the plot of the original film. They even released a U.S. poster for the film that uses the same red tinting as the Blood Simple poster and DVD cover. What do you think, does this look like something worth checking out? A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop hits select theatres on September 3rd; check out the trailer after the jump.

That looks much better than the trailer from last year. Maybe I’ll rent it someday out of curiosity.
