Monday Morning Box Office Report: Inception Thwarted by The Other Guys

After three weekends at the top of the box office, Christopher Nolan’s Inception was finally dethroned by the Will Ferrell / Mark Wahlberg buddy cop comedy The Other Guys. The movie nearly doubled the opening weekend numbers for last summer’s Land of the Lost, putting Will Ferrell back at the same level as more successful comedies like Anchorman and Step Brothers. Inception dropped 32% from the previous weekend but still managed to claim the #2 spot, while Step Up 3D had a weaker showing than its predecessors even with the added boost of 3-D ticket prices. Meanwhile, Salt and Dinner for Schmucks remained in the top 5, and the indie dramedy The Kids Are All Right vaulted into the #10 spot after expanding to more screens.
