Thor Comic-Con Trailer

After the last batch of photos for Marvel’s upcoming Thor movie hit the web, a lot of people were concerned that it just looked way too goofy. It seems like Marvel is now attempting to nip that bad buzz in the bud as an extended five minute trailer from Comic-Con has “leaked” online and made fanboys fall in love all over again. The clips showcase a variety of scenes including some moments between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Zeus (Anthony Hopkins) in the Hall of Asgard, and Thor on Earth where he meets Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) also figures prominently in many of the scenes.

There’s no question that Thor needs to strike a difficult balance between the fantasy stuff and the real world superhero stuff, and it looks like director Kenneth Branagh is doing a good job of it. I do think that it feels a bit like an ’80s movie (Masters of the Universe anyone?) with the way that Thor arrives on Earth and blends in with the common folk. Either way, who knows how long it will be online for, so make sure you check out this footage while you can. Thor hits theatres on May 6th, 2011; the trailer is embedded after the jump.

Either it’s my internet being really slow or the trailer doesn’t work.
I’ve checked trailer addict and it’s not working there either.

hey that looked pretty good! Chris actually looks good as Thor…Man did he get big for the role!

What’s up with N Portman…still hot but man her acting has regressed or something…I mean she’s Ok in some things but now she recites lines like she’s still in Episode 1.

But overall better than I expected but still skeptical until I see the movie.

way better than i expected. the pictures they released did this no justice.

  • Niklas

well.. that looks a lot better than the pics but I still have no idea if this will be meh or awesome

  • I love Hopkin’s acting.

I didn’t expect much from this trailer judging by the screenshots, but this trailer still managed to disappoint me. There was a lot about the movie that I didn’t like, like the Avatar opening, the ammount of slo mo, the cliched dialogue, the mediocle special effects, absence of fun that the Iron Man movies had, everybody’s over-acting, and the melodrama. Until the final minute of the trailer when the heavy music started, I didn’t think there was anything in the trailer that worthy of buying a movie ticket. It kind of gave me an X-Men 3 vibe, where you can see how awesome this movie is trying to be. It looks like Micheael Bay directed it, only he didn’t have his bottomless budget, so he had to do the best with what he had. But it’s just an early trailer and things could change a great deal between now and when it comes out.

Thor is wielding a tiny hammer. Not that I care about the film, just saying…

This could easily have looked awful and it manages to pull off the story with what seems like little cheese, which is good. I actually really liked the scenes between Odin (not Zues) and Thor. The acting seems pretty good overall. It’s still too early to tell, but I am intrigued.

You’re talking about it like you’ve seen the whole movie already.

is this even a legit trailer or was it just put together exclusively for Comic Con? i think it’s the latter.

with that in mind i’m willing to give pass to some of the problems this trailer had, eg, it looks very unpolished/unfinished visually (Sean you probably got the 80s feel because of this).. also as a first trailer it seem to give away a lot of the story, which is weird.

but overall this got me excited.

I’m pretty sure this was only intended to be for comic-con. I don’t think I can remember anyone doing a 5 minute trailer for general public consumption.

It’s obvious that some things were still in the early stages.

The stuff on earth looks awesome, but valhalla looks retarded.

  • phil

This looked awesome! The suits look great and Odin’s throne is unreal, with a bird perched on either side

really looking forward to this now

  • Brendan

I wasn’t interested before, but I am now. I’m not saying it’s going to be great or even good, but it looks like it could be a decent action film.
As far as the end of the trailer, I have to say this: Kneel before Laser-face!

  • Ben

How so? I, personally, think it looks great. Is it simply the fact that it’s not a traditional take on it that you have an issue with?

  • Sam

Wow, I didn’t think it would be this good, now I cannot wait!!!!

  • Kurei

Wow, trailer was too damn long, giving away everything. I don’t even have to watch the movie now since I can guess everything else and fill in the blanks. I still don’t like those costumes, they still look too shiny.

  • Steve

“Zeus”? Are you guys friggin serious?

  • Snorfle

But what does Doug Nagy think??
