Priest Trailer Starring Paul Bettany

Considering that Legion was such an utter disappointment, it’s difficult to get excited about a new collaboration between director Scott Charles Stewart and Paul Bettany. However, I can’t deny that Stewart has a knack for interesting visuals and this time around he is drawing from a comic book series instead of his own imagination… so maybe there’s a chance this won’t suck?

Priest takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where vampires and humans have been at war with each other for centuries. Bettany plays a Warrior Priest who breaks his sacred vows in order to hunt down a pack of vampires after they kidnap his niece. The cast includes Lily Collins, Cam Gigandet and Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Christopher Plummer and Brad Dourif, and this new Comic-Con trailer doesn’t look half-bad. On the other hand, I kinda liked the trailer for Legion too. Priest hits theatres on May 13th, 2011; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

It is a CG fest like this that makes INCEPTION look freaking grounded and amazing.
I hope INCEPTION gets people thinking about stepping up their effects game.

  • Awesome a movie about vampires, haven’t seen one of those in a while.
After just watching Day Breakers I am about excited for this as I am for my next BM.

  • Big Hungry

As I check back the video is removed with a note in place saying “content rejected”…
    So true.

I had the same reaction, Sean. I loved the Legion trailer. I was very pumped about it. I had a business trip to LA planned during the week it came out. I went and saw it in the old Fox theatre…big event for me. But goddamn what a piece of shit.

This movie stirred that same excitement. But I’m not going to be excited. I’ll put it in my netflix queue now and watch two years from now when it gets down to it. Fuck everything about this filmmaker. I don’t trust him.

I actually thought the trailer for Legion was cheesy and knew the movie would be cheesy.

Was at the mall with bunch of friends and they all wanted to see Legion. I protested and said it was going to be junk and a waste of money. But I was out voted so I ended up seeing it. I was right and my friends all admitted they were wrong.

That movie was a turkey…and i liked the cast too. What a waste.

    It’s been taken down.

Just saw the trailer at another site. Here it is for people who can’t find it:

    http://movies.insidepulse.com/2010/07/27/trailer-for-priest-blesses-the-internet-sort-of/

It looks like a Stephen Sommers Van Helsing pic…bleaaaahhh. Hated that stinker and Priest might have a similar smell to it.

  • Primal

I’m not sure that the involvement of Sam Raimi as producer will make an amateur director do any better.

Legion was an absolutely horrendous film which has an equally good cast compared to Priest. Legion is easily the worst film of the year so far for me and much has to do with this director’s direction and writing. Fuck this guy.

  • Napalm

what’s with Paul Bettany playing all these religion related roles. Da vinci code, legions and now this! looks just as bad/ridiculous as legions.

  • HFD

Legion, based on an original screenplay, was a disappointment, but the difference here is Priest is based on an acclaimed comic book. I’ll check it out.

  • Mrespony

“Priest is based on an acclaimed comic book.”

Yeah, an acclaimed manga, no thanks.

  • Kurei

Actually Priest is a manhwa, Korean not Japanese comic. The trailer looks cool for what is.

  • I can’t wait until this comes out on DVD and all the people who rent this get the other movie called “Priest” by mistake and then freak out when they watch it.
