Mark Ruffalo is the New Hulk?

Although this is not yet 100% confirmed, it’s looking like there is a pretty good chance that Ed Norton’s replacement for The Avengers has been found, and it will be none other than Mark Ruffalo. After the news came out earlier in the week that Norton would not be reprising his role as Bruce Banner or The Hulk, there were rumours that Joaquin Phoenix was under consideration for the role. Now it appears that there is an offer on the table for Ruffalo, although we have conflicting reports on just how far along the negotiations are.

According to Nikki Finke over at Deadline Hollywood, Ruffalo is in “late-stage discussions” with Marvel to join The Avengers. However, The Hollywood Reporter has since done some fact-checking of their own, and they maintain that although an offer has been made, Ruffalo has not made a decision and still has yet to meet with director Joss Whedon.

If they do end up closing the deal, it will be a somewhat strange choice for the part. Ruffalo is a great actor with a fantastic resume that includes Shutter Island, Zodiac, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Brothers Bloom. He’s also been getting rave reviews for his performance in The Kids Are All Right, but do you really need serious acting chops to play Bruce Banner? It’s not like his name will be a big draw either way, but he is known for doing great work in supporting roles, which I suppose puts him one up on Norton (according to Marvel, anyway). What do you think, is Ruffalo an inspired choice, or not really an actor you can see as The Hulk?

I don’t know how I feel about it. It seems like every actor wants to be in a super hero movie.

    Anthony Hopkins – Thor
    Christian Bale – Batman
    Ed Norton – Hulk
    so on and so on

  • Teo

I think he suits the part…he can def. pull off the experimenting dr look and then well hulk is all cgi. plus he has acting chops so its all good

What exactly does that mean? They’re making comic book movies, movies require actors. You realize that that list of 3 names you just posted isn’t “every actor” there is, right?

  • Jonny Ashley

    Lol, understatement of the year.

  • Doug Henning’s Bastard Son

    Bigtime underrated actor.

Best choice next to Christopher Walken.

Imagine Walken sayin’ “Don’t make me angry – you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.

he was great in zodiac havent seen many other performances by him but this sounds great

  • Hugo Van Nor

Since this movie has the makings of a big steaming pile of shit. They should take a chance and have Sam Jackson play every role. This would make it interesting.

  • Bas

Ruffalo fits the character way better than norton imo. But I hate broken continuity, so I’d rather see Norton back in action (I know, “it’s nice to want things”).

  • HFD

I never warmed up to Ruffalo as an actor until Shutter Island. But yeah, I can see him in this role, though he is a bit too “built” to play the frail Dr Banner.

  • swarez

His looks aren’t that dissimilar to Eric Bana actually.

  • AndrĂ©s Cabrera Castro

    steve buscemi!
that is my choice for banner.
