Spike Lee in Talks for Nagasaki Deadline

It’s been two years since Spike Lee’s last dramatic feature, Miracle at St. Anna, came and went without much fanfare. Now it looks as if Lee has found his next project, a thriller called Nagasaki Deadline. The script has been around for quite some time now and has undergone changes in talent over the years. Most recently Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) was on-deck to direct, but opted for The Green Lantern instead. Lee now has his shot at it in what might be a return to the gritty suspense that he gave us with Inside Man.
Deadline describes the plot as follows…
“The film focuses on a troubled FBI agent and his desperate race to thwart two terrorist attacks planned to unfold on American soil. The fed goes beyond obvious suspects to focus on theories that the crime is tied to historical events, as he races against the clock.”
I’d count myself a fan of Spike Lee, even though I haven’t seen as many of his movies as I’d like. This film sounds intriguing, even though I’m wary of the “tied to historical events” angle, especially after Miracle at St. Anna. As talented as the guy is, he seems hit-or-miss. I suppose that’s what happens when you’re as prolific a filmmaker as he is. Seriously, between his narrative films and documentaries, I don’t understand how he finds time to attend as many Knicks’ games as he does. Anyways, for now I’ll trust that Lee makes the most of this and we won’t end up with another National Treasure-type film.
