Benjamin Walker to Play Beast in X-Men: First Class?

Well, we’ve got another possible casting rumour this week for Fox’s upcoming X-Men: First Class movie, but it’s probably not one that many people will have an opinion on (myself included). Roger Friedman at Showbiz 411 is reporting that Benjamin Walker has landed the role of Hank McCoy aka Beast in the young superhero flick. You may recall that Beast was played in X-Men: The Last Stand by Kelsey Grammar. While that’s all well and good, I think what everyone wants to know is, who the heck is Benjamin Walker?

Walker’s previous screen roles include small parts in Clint Eastwood’s Flags of our Fathers and Bill Condon’s Kinsey (he played a 19-year-old Alfred Kinsey in the latter). The thing that is bringing him the most attention right now, however, is his lead performance in the off Broadway musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. There’s no word on whether or not the movie would compromise the show’s possible move to Broadway, but clearly this is a big break for Walker and one you wouldn’t want to turn down.

He would join James McAvoy (Professor X) and possibly Michael Fassbender (Magneto) as the only confirmed roles thus far. However, it would seem to reinforce the fact that this movie will rely mainly on young unknowns, not unlike that Justice League movie that never ended up happening a few years back. Is this a good thing? I guess we’ll wait and see. Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) is signed on to direct. What do you think about how X-Men: First Class is coming together?

Looking good so far.. I´m kinda hoping that Aaron Johnson gets Cyclops, I don´t care if he´s Kick-Ass as well.. Lokking forward to what will hopefully be an awesome X-men movie. They really should adapt Joss Whedons Astonishing X-men run though, probably the best comic run I´ve ever read.

Hopefully we’re getting the ‘human’ Beast albeit with ape-like abilities this time, and not the flurry blue cookie monster on the right
