Marvel Officially Casts Hawkeye and Dum Dum Dugan

Following up on months of speculation, it looks like The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner is finally about to sign on the dotted line for the role of Hawkeye in The Avengers. Marvel has been courting him for some time now, but he has taken his sweet time deciding (he was also considering a starring role in the Battleship movie at one point, but I think he made the right choice here). By taking on a supporting character, Renner is also leaving himself open for possible involvement in P.T. Anderson’s next film.

However, Hawkeye isn’t the only Marvel casting announcement to hit the presses this week. It appears that they are also in the process of nailing down an actor for the role of Timothy “Dum Dum” Dugan for the Captain America movie as well.

According to Variety, that actor will be Neal McDonough (Minority Report, Desperate Housewives). Dugan is a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. who is known for being an expert marksman and also for wearing a bowler hat. He served with Nick Fury in WWII as part of his Howling Commandos squad, before becoming his second in command at S.H.I.E.L.D.

It’s unclear if Dugan would also appear in The Avengers movie; currently the cast includes Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Nick Fury and War Machine. Ed Norton has not yet signed on, so the involvement of Bruce Banner and The Hulk are still up in the air. At any rate, it looks like Josh Holloway’s casting options are rapidly shrinking! Are you happy with these new casting choices? Do these characters really matter or will they end up being pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things?

I like the hype surrounding this movie… If there was a movie to out-hype Avatar it would be The Avengers. I think Holloway would make an excellent Hank Pym (Ant-Man). I think that Renner’s character will be a relatively small part in this movie, but that doesn’t mean he wont have a big role in sequels.

What was that? Ah, yes. The sound of Jay having a nerdgasm.

look at that cartoon picture, look at those muscles no real guy can have these muscles not even bodybuilders, I wish there was a way you could recreate this on the big screen..You know what i would love to see.. A superhero movie filmed with Avatar motion capture technology, not necessary in 3d. Just cgi the body of the Superhero in a super realistically cartoon-way.. Is it possible?

I’ll be excited for this when I’ve seen captain america and thor.. so far it feels like the only main guy we’ve seen is ironman

  • Jay must be the happiest boy in the world.
