MacGyver Movie is Actually in the Works

First there was MacGyver, it was a golden time, a better time — a time when you could make any technological device out of a piece of wood, a car battery and some strings. Then the dark ages came, and MacGyver went off the air. Time passed, the world was a gray and sad place, then MacGruber came! … and made it all worse. Now things might turn around again however, as MacGyver is about to return! Oh yes, the rumors a few months back actually spoke the truth; MacGyver is returning, cinema-style!
New Line Cinema is handling the project and has hired a screenwriter for the flick. Sadly though, the writer they’ve hired is Jason Richman, the “brilliant mind” behind such films as Bangkok Dangerous, Swing Vote and Bad Company. Also, there’s currently no word on whether or not Richard Dean Anderson will be returning to play the role of MacGyver once again or if this’ll be some lean, mean reboot with edge, aimed at the cool kids, having some random hunk from Twilight or High School Musical grow a mullet. I sure hope Anderson will return, as a reboot would be lame, but it’ll most likely turn out to be the reboot route they’re taking, as Anderson is old-ish and that’s what The A-Team did. That movie will end up a semi-hit at the very least.
Still, you never know, New Line has surprised me positively before, and they’ve had success with Stallone returning to play his signature characters Rocky and Rambo, so maybe, just maybe, they’ll see some value in Anderson returning to play MacGyver? It’s doubtful, but I’m trying out a new approach of staying positive and what not, so we’ll wait and see. The film has potential.
