Monday Morning Box Office Report: Iron Man 2 Steals the Weekend

The combined powers of Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott were not enough to take down Iron Man 2 over the weekend, as Tony Stark and Co. cashed in with another $53 million despite dropping 59% from last week. Robin Hood earned approximately $37 million, which doesn’t sound like much considering that the movie was budgeted at $200 million, however, it is slightly better than Gladiator‘s $34 million opening, and Robin Hood also topped the international box office to take $111 million worldwide. Clearly Robin Hood has much more appeal abroad. Letters to Juliet and Just Wright opened at #3 and #4 respectively, while How to Train Your Dragon rounded out the top 5.

1. Iron Man 2 — $53M
2. Robin Hood — $37.1M
3. Letters to Juliet — $13.8M
4. Just Wright — $8.5M
5. How to Train Your Dragon — $5.12M
6. A Nightmare on Elm Street — $4.7M
7. Date Night — $4M
8. The Back-up Plan — $2.46M
9. Furry Vengeance — $2.3M
10. Clash of the Titans — $1.25M

    More like steels the weekend.

  • Ha ha. Ian caught Sean asleep at the wheel (couldn’t come up with an appropriate Iron Man metaphor myself) on this particular pun.
