Sam Worthington to Star in Sci-fi Allan Quatermain Movie

Looks like Sam Worthington is lining up his next starring role in a potential blockbuster franchise, and this time around, he’s going to be a producer as well. The Avatar and Clash of the Titans star has signed on to headline Quatermain, a new take on the classic Victorian adventure hero Allan Quatermain that is currently being set up at DreamWorks. Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are also producing.
The script, which was originally written by Mark Verheiden (Timecop, My Name is Bruce), adds a sci-fi twist. Quatermain returns to the planet Earth many years after humans have abandoned it, most likely to seek some sort of legendary lost treasure. Funny, that sounds a bit like Battlestar Galactica, which Verheiden was also a writer and producer on. It’s also likely a response to the upcoming Disney adaptation of John Carter of Mars… pulp sci-fi is back again! No word yet on who might direct, but either way, if Worthington is starring and it’s shot in 3-D, it should make at least a gazillion dollars.
