Charlie Kaufman Doing Rewrites on Kung Fu Panda 2

There’s a general consensus out there that most of the animated films put out by DreamWorks are pretty terrible and far inferior to the work of Pixar, however, most people also seem to agree that the one exception to the rule is Kung Fu Panda. It was well-written, funny, and visually brilliant, and I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I’m looking forward to the upcoming sequel, Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom. Now this week Heat Vision has given us another reason to be excited about it: Charlie Kaufman, the man behind such mind-altering films as Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, has been hired to rewrite the script.

Before you get too excited, it’s worth noting that this is mainly a polish job more than anything else. However, it’s still an indication of the calibre of talent they’re working with on this film, and I’d say that it’s a very good sign. For the Kaufman die-hards who will inevitably complain that he has better things to do with his time, let’s not forget, the man started his career writing for such sitcoms as Get a Life, The Trouble with Larry and The Dana Carvey Show. Are you a fan of Kung Fu Panda, and does this news bode well for the sequel?

I didn’t see the first one, but I’m definitely going to watch it just in case I’ll need to know any details about the story or characters because I’m going to see this for sure.

I love Kaufman’s work, so hopefully this will be good.

I thought you liked How to Train Your Dragon? This is exciting, I hope he does something interesting with the story

  • you need to do an open Friday forum on current movies sometimes being to fast for their own good. I liked Kung Fu Panda, but parts of that film are way to over-the-top kinetic, with laser fast moves and jumps a mile high. films like this and Speed-racer could be more enjoyable if they slow the fuck down and stop trying to out do other films. I feel these films are in an “arms race” with other films were they keep upping the ante. Pixar seems to not to buy in to this game…although Up had some of it to….

Seeing moves like Kung Fu Panda makes me AMAZED that people haven’t been doing superhero movies with 3d technology

think of how enjoyable something like Fantastic Four could be, if it was done by Pixar or some other studio
