Fox Moving Forward with Commando Remake

commandoremake

Well, it looks like there was some truth to the rumours that we heard last summer about a remake of the ’80s action flick Commando. 20th Century Fox is in the process of putting together a new take on the 1985 Schwarzenegger film about a retired Special Forces agent whose daughter is kidnapped. They have hired former Navy soldier David Ayer (Training Day, Harsh Times) to pen the script, who is expected to create a slightly more realistic spin on the original.

There have been quite a few Arnold movies coming back to the big screen as of late. Terminator, Predator and Conan the Barbarian have all received sequels or reboots of some sort, but this could be the first non-franchise Schwarzenegger remake to hit theatres (although a Total Recall remake is also in development). Instead of trying to find someone to fill Arnold’s shoes as John Matrix, they are simply going to tweak the character by making him “less brawny, but more skilled in covert tactics and weaponry.” Sounds to me like they are hoping to turn it into another Taken. Is this a remake that could actually work? Let off some steam in the comments below.

The fact that you said “Let off some steam in the comments below.” made my day.

Taken is a more down to earth commando (already done). So this movie will be hard to find its own ground. While arnold may not have been the best actor, he was my favorite person to follow from movie to movie. Arnold has charisma and he has big shoes for someone to fill. The only person that would come close is the rock but he doing kid movies. I would love to see arnold come back to the role but this time he has to save his grandkid.

The reason people liked Commando was because of Arnold. The story was as simple as it could be but it was the one liners and Arnold’s personality that made the film a winner.
They will have to beef up the story and find a pretty charismatic actor to make this a success. Or blow up things real good. That usually works these days.

Hollywood doesn’t have an original idea in it’s collective head. If they are planning to change the character, why do a remake? Why not make an original film and stop messing with films people love?
