Cary Elwes Confirmed for Saw 7

WARNING: Possible Spoilers for the Saw series.

Screen Rant confirms that Cary Elwes will be reprising the role of Dr. Lawrence Gordon for the seventh (and supposedly final) installment of the long-running Saw franchise. Gordon, who lopped his foot off to get away in the first Saw film, has been absent from the five sequels that followed and there has been no real hint at his fate. Since this is supposed to be the last movie in the series, I think it’s definitely good of the people in charge to bring Elwes back and to finally tie up all the loose ends the series has made during the past six years.

I know it’s not really cool to like the Saw series in the film site world, but I am personally excited to see how things go down…and for them to finally end it once and for all. Saw 7 comes out (in 3D!) October 22nd of this year. Anyone else excited? Anyone? Hello?

  • This would be the only sequel I’d be willing to see. I got to meet and speak with James Wan, Leigh Whannell and Cary Elwes while covering Sundance in 2004 and there weren’t a bunch of nicer guys at the festival. Attending that first screening and chatting afterward was one of my favorite experiences as a writer/critic for the local newspaper.

  • Darksiders

Yeah. I would like to see how they bring him back into the story and where he is now. Hopefully the twist doesn’t turn out to be that Cary Elwes is the jigsaw guy in this movie.

  • Napalm

i loved the first 3 movies but from 4 the series went downhill. i haven’t seen part 6 yet, because i know it will suck ass. but this news kinda rekindles my excitement for a Saw movie a little.

  • Steve

Carey Elwes needs to pay the rent. He hasn’t gotten any decent work after Princess Bride/Hot Shots anyway.

  • Ben

I’d disagree Napalm, I feel that part 2 was the weakest and it’s been on a pretty good upswing since 3.

Also, I’ve been calling it for the last couple years, at the end of the final Saw, the reveal is the killer not having one of his feet and we realize it’s Elwes as the Saw theme plays.

I love the whole series, but I agree with Ben, that part 2 was the weakest of them all. If any of you haven’t seen all of these movies, I strongly suggest you do. Part 6 was actually very impressive, and I can’t wait to see 7, and I do hope they end it all with 7, and do it justice.

  • For me (In my Randy Jackson voice) they all went slightly downhill after the first, and the fifth was hard to watch but I found the sixth to be better than the fifth and fourth and am excited to see how they end it all.

Jonathan it’s nice to see someone that mentions Saw and doesn’t shit all over the series.

  • Part 2 was my favourite. Different strokes…

  • Jonny Ashley

    yeah, I’ll watch this

lol, as someone posted above, if the twist is Cary Elwes is/has been helping jigsaw since saw 2, I will cry “obvious”

  • Kenny Hulpach

Im a huge fan of the Saw series, and I loved every part except for five (where it was obvious what would happen). The writers would be pretty stupid to make a twist where Dr. Gordon is the apprentice, cuz everyones expecting that based on his appearance in the cast. I think the twist will be something way better, something that ties all seven parts together in a way no one expected. Dont get me wrong, Im glad Dr. Gordon’s back, and Im excited to see how he survives and all, but the twist better be something good.

You guys, c´mon. NONE of the saw movies are weak; U keep sayin that the second one was the weakest and ITS NOT. Its just that in saw 2, they didnt mean to show us what the movie is all about. They just wanted us to see more clues and that´s that. In second one, we now AMANDA is an accomplice…She knew where she was and what she was doing in that room in the second movie. She lead us the way up until the end when we find out she is actually “the bad one”. SAW ROCKS. I cant wait to see part 7. DOCTOR GORDON IS BACK.
